Oooooo! That's right around my birthday=) That show would be a perfect little present to myself! ---------- The only thing I knew how to do Was to keep on keepin' on like a bird that flew, Tangled up in blue
June 20th, at the bandshell at Abacoa Town Center. Details to follow, but it is a group of bands (so I guess a music festival - what we used to call a "jamboree" back in the day). JJ will be the headline act. Details are in the works, but expect an afternoon-into-evening all-out party. This is a "benefit" show, for two groups fighting to save Florida's beaches: Surfrider, and the Snook Foundation.
Oh yeah, this is a road trip for sure. Thanks tox for the updated details. Man, you got to be damn near as old as me cause I ain't heard the term "jamboree" in a long time. Shit yeah, that's what we called 'em! This is gonna be awesome. ---------- MofroFan1
they have the jupiter beerfest there, kind of small, but if it is acoustic then it would be perfect.....hopefully they get some decent acts to support. nice foundations to be supportin' ta boot!
I'm sorry that I haven't posted anywhere on here in awhile. I haven't forgotten about this place...I've just taken a time out posting on here and the other board I post on (TDC).
I'm definetly going to the JJ Grey Solo on June 20, and taping it for sure.

I changed the name of this thread now that the event has a name and cleaned it up a lil bit so it ain't so long.
As far as the venue, the final decision to change was just finalized yesterday. The initial response to an email blast that the Snook Foundation sent out a couple weeks ago was unprecedented. They figured they better move it to a larger venue, but then there's the issue of wiggling out of the deal with the old venue.
So, until the deposit check was dropped off at the Amphitheater yesterday they didn't actually know where the event was being held.
This show is being put on as a benefit for the Snook Foundation, a group near and dear to JJ. They not only provide stock enhancement for snook, but also hundreds of other marine species. They are protectors of Florida's coastlines and marine habitat.
They're a 501c3 and this will help raise operating funds for them. Here's the details on the show: SurfinSnook Summer Jam
They are not event promoters and are doing this with all volunteers. They really need help from anyone in the Palm Beach/Broward that's interested. They also have sponsorship opportunities to promote your business or service. Contact Brett Fitzgerald brett@snookfoundation.org (561) 707-8923

What is the closest airport to Boca? This is going to be my birthday gift to myself barring any kind of traumatic injury to my person :p ---------- The only thing I knew how to do Was to keep on keepin' on like a bird that flew, Tangled up in blue

Nothing's changed as far as band policy is concerned. I got an email back this morning that the organizer has permission to plug into their system to record and as long as the band approves they have no problem with taping. Videotaping is cool with them but skot always gets direct permission from JJ so now it depends on if he's coming (and I gotta believe he will.)

This event is shaping up quite nicely. I spoke with one of the organizers yesterday and they're pulling it all together for a great afternoon of fun, food, and music.
It's an all ages event (kids under 7 are free [kristi don't even try it]). They're still getting the kid's activities line up.
For the big "kids" the Snook Foundation will have fly casting demonstrations and instruction, and fly tying. And the Surfriders Foundation will have stuff too like stand-up paddle surfing demonstrations.
You can save $2.50 per advance ticket if you have a Paypal account. The Surfriders Foundation is not charging any fees for the tix and only passing on the $1.50 svc charge.
Tix are $20 each. If you buy them thru mofro.net/baseline, there's a $4 svc charge that baseline keeps for a total of $24 ea. But if you order from HERE then they're $21.50 ea.
This is gonna be a really great event y'all! More to come as they line up more vendors and such.

Things continue to progress nicely for this event! It's around the corner now.
The organizer got a GREAT deal from a local hotel for them's of us coming from out of town or locals who want to drink and crawl. Rooms are $53.10/room (for 1
-2 people; $57.60/room for 3-4 people). Free continental breakfast, swimming pool, dancing girls.
La Quinta Inn & Suites University Drive South 3100 North University Drive Coral Springs, FL 33065
Here's how to get the rate. Call La Quinta's Group and Tour Department at 1-866-527-1498 and tell 'em you're with the Snook Foundation party, and give 'em this: Reservation Bloc confirmation number 7706GRRJTQ. If that don't work, raise hell.
If you haven't, check out Will Conner below. He and JJ are good friends and Will's coming from Australia to help for this cause. Don't forget this event is to raise funds for beach and habitat preservation in Florida y'all!

I'm all in, with wife and kids in tow. (kids 10 and under free) Probably get them there early so they can catch a few bass in that lake: http://www.snookfoundation.org/index.php?src=directory&view=news_special_detail&refno=1048 BTW - I don't think you need to have your own PayPal account to purchase tix at the Surfrider site - the only problem is that you have to buy them 1 at a time - so make your friends buy their own!

Sweet deal on the rooms. We were gonna drag the travel trailer down there, but shit, $106 for two nights is tough to argue with...plus, we might get to see Clay in his drawers. (again)

Well let's see for my Jan. MOFRO run, I rolled around on the floor with some hot chicks, danced naked with an alien, had a wardrobe malfunction and saw Clay in his skivvies. I wonder what fun this trip will hold? :p ---------- When they've tortured and scared you for twenty odd years, Then they expect you to pick a career, When you can't really function you're so full of fear, A working class hero is something to be

Frank, you are more than welcome to get South Bound and Down with the Webbster and I. We will be staying down there for 2 days, so pack a lunch. If that's an issue for you, I'm guessing we can manage to get you a lift back this way with some of these fine folks.
Giggles, you're outta your damn mind...and THAT's why I love you!

Gigs, and I was just referring to the trip down, no consideration at all was given to "hot chicks, aliens or Clay's underoos".
I have a present for you that I'll pack and bring to you in Jupiter. Your hint is "October".
