THANK YOU, Giggles, for your kind heart. As I said, I don't want to start out poorly here. Firefly, we were indeed at HOB; we (my sister, Amy and I)did not venture in to the pit up front until about 3/4 of the way thru the shindig... Amy's husband and my wife decided not to join us in that mass of humanity. Their loss.
Hey DT =) Rooster & Home are Will Connor songs, he joined JJ on stage after JJ's main set. That's Alright Mama is an Elvis Presley cover =) ---------- Well Behaved Women Rarely Make History
It was truly a pleasure to meet each of you. I've seen most of you at many MOFRO shows. In fact, my wife starts every show looking for John Dude - we had never met, but he's a staple at JJ's shows, and it ain't the same without some familiar faces.
True story, I was eating dinner with JJ at the Yearling once shortly after I met him, and I asked him if he knew the "guy with the baseball cap that dances like crazy." "Oh yeah, that's John, he's over there!" Sure enough, a few booths behind us John was having dinner there, too. John, did you stick around to hear JJ jam with Willie in the back room that night?
Fast forward a few years, and I took a MOFRO newbie to the Bamboo Room. This guy is a psychologist, and can't help working the crowd (the nerd). At one point, he tapped my shoulder and said, "Look at that guy up there, he's about 3 seconds from jumpming up and dancing." John Dude proved him right - before I could say "I sort of know that guy," he was up and cutting a rug big time.
Back to the SSSJ - having a meeting at my house in about an hour or so with the committee members that busted their butts to put this thing together. Just so you all know, JJ is very interested in coming back next year to do it again.
I told Clay separately, but it's worth repeating to you folks too. This site saved the day, you showed up in force, and if you hadn't we probably would have lost money on this venture. We didn't break the bank, but the bottom line is, it was fun, the seed was planted, and we hope to grow next year.
I remember that day @ the Yearling, but didn't have the pleasure of meeting you then. Liz & I ate and then went off to chill by Lochloosa...long story short...we didn't find it, but did end up needing the 4wheel drive option in my 89 Cherokee that afternoon. Good Times!
Much gratitude to you Brett & everyone that made this happen. It felt as though I was at a private party with nothing but good people. I will attend anything else you put on in the future. While I admit that I'm not a fisherman, I did buy a Snookfest shirt that shows the 10,000 islands on the back & got JJ to sign it! WooHoo!!!
I've been on the road for work all this week, leaving around 6am & getting home around 10pm so I haven't had time to catch up with y'all. Recordings came out great! The Cracker Coalition will have a nice "matrix" recording available really soon.
I must say, last few weeks work has been so crazy that I'm not sleeping much & stressed. I was actually able to relax this weekend! Thanks to each & every one of you that was part of our experience.
Brendan, great to see you on the board. Beaufro & I see this cat at all the shows.
Highlight of the entire weekend: JJ taking stage & opening with King Hummingbird, while Tosh bobbed his head to the beat while Hollis just radiated the energy of a proud parent! ---------- "throwin' pennies on the tracks and playin' in the rain...oblivious of the world around us that was going insane"

Now that I have had a few days to soak in and assimilate the wondrous experience of this past weekend, I still find that mere words cannot possibly convey the sheer magnitude of fun I had! It was of seismic proportions!
First off I would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Brett for all of the hard work and diligence that he put into making SSSJ a reality! It was truly a special occasion! And presenting me with the signed poster provided me an everlasting yet tangible testament to the magic of the day!
My 39 hour foray into the Sunshine state was wrought with such an overwhelming sense of ebullience, that I literally could’ve floated home! My journey started with a mini road trip from Orlando International Airport to Coral Springs, laughing, singing and just generally being merry with John Dude & Liz! As we traversed the Florida roadways, we left a trail of newly made friends behind; convenience store clerks, random Brazilian business men at a rest stop, and almost certainly two ladies of the evening wanting to set up shop in the gas station bathroom Liz & I had just vacated. We finally arrived at the hotel at 3:00 am giddy, goofy and sorely needing to rest our weary heads on the dense yet soft pillows set upon our perfectly made beds.
The morning and early afternoon was a blur of laughter, reuniting with friends and eager anticipation of the coming events. When I finally arrived at the venue, initially I was so struck by the oppressive heat that I was unable to truly appreciate the beauty of the venue. I am not kidding folks, it was AFRICA hot! Once my eyes adjusted to the heat waves, I was amazed by the landscape and scenery surrounding me! I just knew that if I could acclimate my Yankee ass to the sweltering conditions, that I was in for something incredibly special and truer words have never been uttered!
The mid and late afternoon hrs were comprised of solid and enjoyable performances by Joey George, Peter Stein & Will Conner.
Finally during the gloaming hours of the evening, JJ Grey took the stage and promptly proceeded to weave a spell of enchantment over the crowd. And John Dude is right, there was something so damn powerful about JJ’s opening performance of King Hummingbird; his angst ridden and haunting voice seeking forgiveness while the cherubic Tosh cavorted on the stage in youthful glee and innocence. This dichotomy of purity and guilt was incredibly moving. From that point on, the night was just a mass of wonderful sensations: one song melding perfectly into the next, evoking the rapt attention of the crowd. Not only did the audience feel the magic of the night, so did JJ. He was very engaging, humble and charming and it was clearly evident that he didn’t want to leave the stage and for the night to end! I look back at the setlist and am still awed that I got to experience that show with such an awesome group of people!
I remember something that Grace (morena’s friend) said that struck me as being so simple yet so profound. In response to something someone said to her, she spoke the following words: “Who gives a f*ck if I know you, right here, right now, sharing this experience, we are family”……..she perfectly articulated the sense of unconditional belonging and human connections that draws me so very much to this band and this man’s music. Thank you all for a lovely weekend, I feel blessed to call you friends!

how beautiful worded, you can write so nice, perhaps you can give me a lesson? I like the part with the africa heat and your yankee ass sweatin. ---------- "It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation." - Herman Melville
ohhh giggles, u certainly have a way with words.. That was my second show with Grace, we saw G Love together at HOB in March and that's my girl!!! My fave person to go to a show with. I can not wait to take her to her first MOFRO show!!!
John Dude, Thanks for the shout out, brother. Like I said in an earlier post, I look forward to seeing all ya'll down the road... Maybe Beau will be at the next shindig. And, to echo what you and others have expressed-it was a great show, a great venue, a great time. It really was like a private party. Tip of the hat to all involved in making this happen. I'll be back next year. And...Giggles, that is an amazing narrative you shared regarding your weekend experience(s)... Beautiful.
My goodness giggles that was wonderfully said. I don't know that she missed a thing and I certainly couldn't put it any better.
Tox, you're right about the fan base for sure. From giggles' foray from Philly to BSR*Fan coming from St. Augustine to those of us from Tampa and Orlando...everyone can be proud of the efforts made by the fans. From those that were there, and those that were there in spirit.
All the folks putting on the event were volunteers and they worked hard y'all, for the last several months too, not just game day. So indeed we raise our glasses to Tox and all involved.
Quick remark on the setlist. He didn't play That Boy did he? It was on my "request" list and I see it's on the setlist but was I passed out or something when he did it?
Quick comment on JJ. He hung out and signed stuff and had his pic took with folks until every last one of them was done. Class act, that's what he is.
Quick remark to morena. Shame on me for not spending more time talking to you and Grace. Next time I'll make up for my poor manners.
And regarding tox's story about JohnDude, ain't that great y'all? Yes, JohnDude is a legend, an uber-fan, an excellent taper, and a wonderful person. And yep, he can move. Boy can dance. Got the beat. Got more rythym is his pinky that I gots in my whole body.
Lastly, let's not forget that the real winner in this was Florida. Yep, the benefactors--the Snook Foundation and the Surfriders Foundation--are dedicated to preserving and protecting Florida's coastline, waterways and natural habitat critical to the state's survival now and in the long term.
Hey E. Did you hang that fish? The whole time I was onstage next to JJ waiting for him to sign your scaly friend, I half expected the thing to start singing

Hey Tox, I gather you are apart of the SSSJ committee. I think you and all involved did a wonderful job putting together a day/evening for everyone of all ages to remember, and I wasn't even there! My Hubby said he would love to donate his artistic talents in designing next years poster/tee shirt art, if the position is available (wouldn't want to step on anyones toes ya know).
an example of what he put together in about 10 minutes for a design for the Orange Peel show in Asheville back in March (gosh am I in need for a Mofro fix!)
I have more examples if you are interested.

My first attempt to upload the show failed and I am now uploading by Song but it appears my camera shut down after a half hour and I missed about 4 songs and a few at the end when i ran out of space on the card. I will try to get the HD versions loaded but need to figure some stuff out to do that as my mac won't handle HD format because it is not intel based.
You and me both swkelley! I won't wash mine cuz it has JJ and Simone's autograph (with a sharpie), don't want it to fade at all. ---------- "No effort, no gain No effort, stay the same No don’t you ever try to live a lie"
Sunshine.....I'm sure several people on the site here would love to purchase one also....I see John Dude said he would like one too, in his post above. ---------- any groove is reason to move
Alright, gang...Sue Webb has a hook-up here in town that she's sending Sunshine's file to tomorrow for pricing. What shirt color(s) did ya'll have in mind for the black and white screen print? I'm guessing we'll have to have 12-15 confirmed before we can move forward with printing. There will be a one-time set-up fee, but we'll be able to order more at anytime in the future, if needed, at a per/shirt cost.
If interested, please follow this post with shirt color suggestions and number of shirts requested. Once we get the required number of shirts lined up and shirt color figured out, we'll move ahead to the next step. I'll post pricing per shirt as soon as I hear back from the printer.

Ummmmm....I am partial to pink, but I'm not so sure all the guys would be too keen on that. Otherwise I think a nice heather gray would be a good color! And I am good for (4)

Morena, the shirt they speak of is of the jpeg above of JJ and the harmonica. My husband created this design for me and my brother for the Orange Peel show in March 09. I just did a simple transfer (just one from the local print haus) and is not, lets say, your higher quality transfer and will fade more so because of that. It created alot of interest to print and direct screen printing will yeild a longer lasting product. I was unable on my end to use our printer - their minimum order was like 50 pieces. So I passed the art on to those interested.
Just to let you know that the jpeg Sue is sending on to the print shop in meant for white or light colors. Meaning that it is a one color (black) print. It looks like it is 2-3 tone because of the different amounts of black ink that comes thru the screens when they print them. There is no white plate, which means that if printed on darker shirts, it would not have as much "punch".
Gregg said that he would re-do the art if anyone wants it printed on a dark or black shirt, but that would also mean seaparte burning of screens and an extra set up charge.
I have emailed some folks who I know will want a shirt also, so I will send the amounts and sizes of the shirts to you asap. I think I will stick with white.
Question? E, will all the tees have to be the same color? Thank you Sue for doing what I have failed to do. My sincerest appreciation......... :o)
---------- "No effort, no gain No effort, stay the same No don’t you ever try to live a lie"
I'll have the scoop in the next few days and will start a new thread with all the details.
Sunshine, thanks for the added info, as I know nothing about this sort of thing, though Sue's connection is pretty big and does lots of shirts for her every year, so hopefully they can get everything ironed out on the front end.

E, you are very welcome!! If you have any questions at all you can email me if you want. Again, thanks!! ---------- "No effort, no gain No effort, stay the same No don’t you ever try to live a lie"
ohh that is awesome i would totally rock that shirt, but any chance we could get female t-shirts? you know the smaller ones that actually fit a female body as opposed to the boxy manly ones? don't mean to be a pain in the ars but have to ask because since i am so dang short the others don't fit so well. lol.... White is fine with me as well and I may order several.
Yeah, Sue ain't such a big fan of ill-fitting men's shirts either, so I'm certain she'll get pricing for female sizes, too.
I will inquire about multiple shirt colors, but Stan is definitely gettin a pink one.

Green is definatley a MOFRO color (Olive Green) & I believe the white pic on a green T would look killer!!
Put me down for (2) XXL shirts that's 2 shirts, each XXL size
and Elizabeth will take a "baby doll" style medium (green too)

JohnDude, just remember that olive green would be considered a dark color and the ink is black, so keep in mind that what ever the shirt color is, it will be black ink being printed.
