yeah this sounds kinda fun, pass out on the beach maybe?lol, that's the cheapest way I can come up with ---------- "It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation." - Herman Melville
I am unable to make the trip, but the couple I brought to the Peel in March are going. Nice little mini vacation on the beach. Will just hafta live vicariously thru them..........for now.. ---------- "No effort, no gain No effort, stay the same No don’t you ever try to live a lie"
Yup sho nuff season and anything on the island (Isle of Palms) is pretty much $200+/nite. Nice resorts and hotels there on or near the beach. (House and cottage rentals have 3 or 7 nite mins during summer.) If you want a nice weekend in a resort then this da place.
For the more budget conscious, Mt. Pleasant is a Charleston suburb that sits between I of P and Charleston. It's about 4 or 5 miles from the Windjammer. There's a dungheap of hotels in that area (just put Mt. Pleasant S.C. into your fave travel site) that are in the $85 to $150 range. It does seem one could get something pretty decent for $100/nite.
If you want to take your chances and go against the traveler reviews, and be like 10 or 12 miles away, there's a couple places in the $50-$65 range. Typical 'right by the Interstate' places.
The other option would be downtown Charleston or the historic district. It's not too far but farther than Mt. Pleasant.
Couldn't get no deals, sorry!

geesh, I wish!!!!!!!!!! the couple, Dan & Traci, that came to The Peel with us will be there. Our boyscout is coming home from being away at camp all week on Saturday so that show is a no go. I wonder what the closest airport is??? ---------- When they've tortured and scared you for twenty odd years, Then they expect you to pick a career, When you can't really function you're so full of fear, A working class hero is something to be
Gigs I'm not sure whether to take you serious or not. So the answer is Charleston SC. Mapquest puts driving at 11 hrs 17 mins, or you could take a train, or you could thumb it.
I'm just a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma :p ---------- When they've tortured and scared you for twenty odd years, Then they expect you to pick a career, When you can't really function you're so full of fear, A working class hero is something to be
I have been contemplating the possibility and feasibility of making this trip a reality. I need to crunch some numbers! ---------- When they've tortured and scared you for twenty odd years, Then they expect you to pick a career, When you can't really function you're so full of fear, A working class hero is something to be
I will stop enroute to rothbury to play in the ocean with mofro ---------- "It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation." - Herman Melville
After adding up all our bills and coming to the conclusion we ain't got enuf money to pay them we came to the only rational conclusion: fuck it, we're off to South Carolina!
Clay, TW, FireFly and all others making this journey, I hope you have a FANTABULOUS time! Concert calls are always welcome! (hint hint) ---------- Well Behaved Women Rarely Make History
I had some troubles getting here on time, besides the serious traffic bak-up from an accident and gettin pulled over not once but TWICE by a cop in SC it was the rain. let me tell yo about the rain. it's not your average little shower, it fuckin RAINES down here, like someone turned on a faucet, like it rains soo many raindrops per inch there's no room for air, like the rain is in a serious hurry to get to the ground, like someone should measure the speed of rainfall and give it a speedingticket, like I'm not fuckin kiddin you, like you can't see the person driving in front of you. it slowed us down quite a bit. so i didn't get until the last couple of songs. but we hang out for awhile. the greyhounds are doin a gig before their night show tonight and we all gonna go and check it out before heading to windjammers ...of to the beach cause it's the only somewhat cool place ... ---------- "It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation." - Herman Melville
oh and i can tell you that the setlist included 'seminole wind' , 'stagger lee' (the trophy wife says it was the best version she ever heard) and a 'brighter days' encore ---------- "It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation." - Herman Melville
Sorry for the delay y'all. 8 hour drive home yesterday, splayed horizontally today. These 2-nite show/3 day turnarounds out of state wreak havoc on my already notoriously bad back. I'll be back tonite with lots more to say and some pics. More pics and vids will come tomorrow.
Real quick...if you ever get a chance to see a show at the Windjammer, do it. Great place, great crowd, great location, great sound. I may have to re-consider my top place to see a show.
Real quicker: if you haven't seen the band for 6 months or longer, you are in for an amazing surprise. The best, without any doubt, has indeed gotten better.
You are such a tease Clay!....lol Seriously though, I hope you feel better soon. Back pain is one of the worst kinds of pain and I wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy! Sending lots of positive, healing, healthy back energy your way! ---------- Well Behaved Women Rarely Make History

AND it would appear that between FOUR of us we can't seem to recall if they did Ho Cake on Sat night or not. (Think we were having a good time??) So I'm hoping somebody else there will help us out!
Van Battle sat in on trombone for both shows.
The band went on about 10:35 on Friday and played until about 12:30. They went on about the same time on Sat and played until near 1 a.m. JJ came out after the Sat show and hung at the merch table for 20-30 mins.

I gotta check with TW and Firefly to make sure. I think I'm missing a song or 2 somewhere. "That Boy" was on the Friday list but got pulled. I don't remember if anything replaced it. (It also got pulled at Boca and I had it on my 'request' list. Damn!)
2 days of mofro and the beach, i knew that had to be fun but i didn't know HOW much fun. swimming in the ocean, everybody was chillin, watching the soundcheck, dancin the night away, drivin around in circles at 4am tryin to find breakfast, went to the pourhouse for a little afternoon gig with the greyhounds with AC as their drummer music was GREAT, brighter days is sounding better and better,LOVE that song I am def, putting the windjammer one on my list for next year if they go there again ---------- "It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation." - Herman Melville
you forgot stagger lee on fri night!!!!! wasn't there a ho cake somewhere on sat ? maybe?encore?or is it me just thinking about bacon??? ---------- "It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation." - Herman Melville
How in the hell could I forget Stagger Lee on Friday night? Well, it was a last second replacement for That Boy. So it wasn't on the set list, but believe me I remember it. More on that to come.
Giggles, not cold spag at 4 a.m. Eggs, hash browns, bacon, bacon, and a side order of bacon. With syrup. For future trivia contests: Which Mofro band member puts syrup on EVERYTHING? That would be Mr. Anthony 'A.C.' Cole.
what up, first post. 2 nights at the jammer were tastey! Did not notice one taper set up...and these shows were too good not be able to hear them again.
there were 3 fights during the show sat night. one b4 the show even started, one mid show, and one during the encore. crazy!
armymule!!!!!!HAHAHAHAHA, FUCKIN LOVE THE NAME !!!! welcome to the board, did we meet at the show by any chance? were you at the soundcheck?? I saw one of the fights, right before the show, staff took care of that asap ---------- "It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation." - Herman Melville
Welcome armymule.....fantastic username! Anthony and I have something in common then because, I also put syrup on ALL breakfast foods served warm! =) ---------- Well Behaved Women Rarely Make History
Next time I try to be a responsible adult and forgo a MOFRO show because of finances, please smack some sense into me Clay! Though it sounds like I could've gotten into lots of mischief this trip. But since I didn't have bail money, it's probably a good thing I didn't go! ---------- Well Behaved Women Rarely Make History
Welcome armymule! Dunno if we met over the weekend or not. Glad to have you here. My trophy wife was near the first fight. I didn't know about the other two!
Yeah, night 2 was a sellout and night one wasn't quite. AND there were those that were on the beach all day Sat and then at the show and I'm guessing that alcohol had been consumed. It was hot, crowded, sweaty, and I saw some seriously shit-faced people there on Sat.
That all said, Charleston has the distinction of having been voted the "most mannerly city in America" 11 years in a row. I found that to be very much true. The crowd was courteous, gave you your space, and had nice southern manners.
"Can I get me some more hash browns for my syrup?"
Yumpin Yay Yay
FOR THE LADIES:
Somebody sent me this pic and said it's JJ. I dunno about that, but it's a purty beach pic so I thought I'd share.
THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU HAND YOUR CAMERA TO SOMEONE ELSE. FireFly was a bit more front and center than me and she had forgot her camera in the car. She asked to borrow mine. And there you have the reason why there's a close-up of JJ's ass.

Okay let's go here next. This vid is of "Mississippi" but with a slight lyric change. Not on the vid is at the beginning JJ said this song was for South Carolina residents cause of all the crap in the news round there lately.
This is representative of how both shows, but especially night 2, went. At just past the 3:00 mark JJ throws it to Art and he does a mind-blowing, foot stomping, body shaking sax solo that goes for over 2 minutes. His whole body was being poured into that saxophone. Every one of the guys were in the zone like that and played like it was their last show. Infuckingcredible.
