Just feeling blessed to live in such a beautiful place where I can go to the beach and enjoy some sunshine in JANUARY!!!!!!!!! water is freezing still haven't surfed in a month but hey i'm not complaining, living in paradise!!!
I'll second that. I have my great-great-great grandparents to thank for coming to Florida, putting up with the heat long before A/C was invented, long before mosquito spray was invented, and living off the land. (I wish one of 'em had struck oil or something and became a gozillionaire but I ain't complaining.)
I was just out taking photographs this past Sunday & Monday @ the Juno Pier. Choppy, windy, & cold on Sunday & lots of wetsuits but clean & warm Monday.
Sitting on the pier, wearing shorts & t-shirt, watching 4-8 ' waves with some barrels, & realizing it's still January - Doesn't get any better.
sweet SFD, I remember those days so very well. But I would be hanging down at Dunedin Causeway. I remember one Christmas early morning, I musta been about 22, went there by myself to watch the day being born, I remember doing shot of tequila as the sun broke the horizon.......great great memories of living in FL. spent 24 years there. I miss the spanish moss....we had a huge live oak in the front yard that had spanish moss awl over, it was beautiful. Gregg and I built a magnificant tiki hut in our back yard. Had the metal roof, ceiling fans, speakers, of course a cow bell, lol. the bar we built under it was "V" shaped and we collected tons of unique beer labels (and yes we HAD to drink the beer)we put down on the bar and then covered the labels with an inch of poly resin, it was a site to behold. we had our blender out there to make our "fluffies".
We thru a yearly party in our backyard for 10 straight years. We called it the "Beer-B-Que". Gregg would design a cool tee and we would sell them for $10 a piece to help fund the party. we had our rib contests for the last 6 or seven years. a judging panel, prizes, the whole sha-bang.........I entered 3 times and I took 2nd place in '97 and 1st in '98. My Maple Pecan Ribs were a hit! they had homemade caramelized pecan pieces and drizzled with pure maple syrup - yes AC, syrup on ribs!!! I also placed with my coconut macadamian ribs.
We usually had about 150 in attendance. we supplied the Q and my beans (skotdee, this was where my beans first made their entrance) and everyone bought something. We had a full liquor bar, bartenders, volley ball, horse shoes, we even had a band. went from noon til whenever........
Each year had a theme, chili fest one year, Gregg and I gutted and stuffed over 300 jalepenos........one year - Rhythm & Brews and had a home brew contest......Rib Stock had a late 60's early 70's feel, we even had "the dark room" with a black light and a big ole pit group. Since the party was in late June, we were in there to soak up the a/c and part take in the dark room festivities.....ah the Wing Wars of '94 - we had a chicken wing contest and the winner won with a boneless shrimp stuffed deep fried chicken wing, and yes he de-boned them himself - took bout 10 min each......
The very last one, the 10th one was called "A Decade of Beer-B-Ques" A decade of good fun and good friends was in the center of the tee and the front of the shirt had on the past 9 years designs. Then we had what we called the Beer-B-Que Alumni on the back. We thought about every person that attended. We went back thru all the video tape as not to miss anyone. 179 folks, some every year, some just met them that one day. My Wisconsin familia came one year and we made a brat stand with a big old brat that Gregg airbrushed to go over the top of the stand.
Thanks Morena for giving me the opportunity to enter the portal of my life back in Florida and remembering why I loved living there.
guess over the years I was there, I just watched it get so damn over populated, the lake Gregg grew up on was drying up in the name of you guessed it, a new subdivision. Some of my most wonderful moments of my life are of being in Florida - getting married at sunrise on Honeymoon Island - in January - so in a looooong round about way I can relate to you SFD of the beautiful weather in Florida in January!
I apologize to those of you and actually read it to the end, lol!!

hey sfla dave.. I live right by Sebastian Inlet in Melbourne Beach. I heard Ft. Pierce was pretty good also and a lot warmer as well. I have not felt the water this cold in quite some time, in fact we had a lot of dead wildlife in the indian river due to the cold weather. My son just got his new stick and we are so excited to get a family session, may have to take a trip down south because it's not warming up around here.. thanks for the tip!!
Davin's new stick..
This pic was taken at Sebastian inlet during the amazing Hurricane hannah Swell, as usual small window of opportunity when the elements come together, it was FIRING! for a couple fo hours. Unfortuantley I don't have very many surf pics.. sure wish i did..

It’s 2025 and my expenses to keep this site up are just over $800/yr. If you want to help offset my expenses to keep this site up please consider pitching in a buck or 2. Much obliged!
