Hey Clay, I don't know if anyone has asked this or ever brought it up, but I was curious as to the possibility of having a next and previous topic link on the message board? That way, when you are in a thread and want to go to the next thread or one before, you can just click next or prev somewhere on the topic instead of having to go back to the message board and select it individually. I don't know how much trouble or source code that would take to accomplish, but just throwing it out there. Also, not sure how many people really care or feel that would be of any use to them as well. I have a feeling Sunshine will, I can see her going up and down each topic to make sure she doesn't miss anything. That reminds me, I have to get the on stage story out there for her... let me know what you think or of course if anyone else wants to chime in and say whether or not they feel something like that would be worth looking into.

awe...how nice of you to think of me DT. I pondered that thought in some way shape or form, but hey, that is how I git my finger exercise.

whenever you are ready to post your stage story DT, no rush, really.

Good question DT. I don't think I can get that done with what I've got, unfortunately. BUT I'm toying around with other forum formats at the moment so your timing is good to ask; it'll be on the list. I agree it's something that would make things much smoother (for them's of us who don't need finger exercises, of course.)

Since you've cracked the lid open I may as well go ahead and open pandora's box and ask everybody what they'd like to see different as to the format of the forum. Leave it like it is or a forum/board that's more comprehensive like many of them out there are?

What would y'all like? Holla out...this is YOUR website and I want it to be as fun, easy to use, informative, and everything else you're looking for!

weeelll.... if you are thinking about another forum anyway... might I suggest one that has "Show unread posts since last visit" ?

I like it clear cut so I dont miss anything....

ps- people- If you havent donated to the board fund yet-it might help :)

Kimberly now THAT is a great suggestion!!!!!!!! my fingers (well, just the index finger on my right hand) is so damn muscular from going from board to board to make sure I don't miss anything.

and damn it, you beat me to it....I have been wanting to bring up the "donate" button for a while - but I wanted to donate again before I did and then Clay was thoughtful enought to add some donate to Haiti links and I didn't think it was the time......

I am glad that there are others out there that think the same way.......Mr. D does this awl out of his own pocket y'all. even $5 can get him a good cup o joe these days, lol!

Since you asked...

I've spent a good deal of time on a few other message boards, and in particular I would point you in the direction of the Jam Cruise forum.

- the interface lists the # of pages for a particular thread, so rather than having to go to the first page and then click on subsequent page #'s, you can click directly onto any page # you want, which is great for going directly to the last page for any new posts.
- there is also a little icon next to the name of the most recent post-er that will take you directly to the LAST post made.
- when you are logged in, there is a Quote feature, which allows you to easily quote a previous comment
- they have good search features - you can search for keywords within each forum, within particular forums, even within certain topics or threads. You can also search by member, and you can search within thread titles, thread texts, etc.
- there is a private message (pm) feature which is great if you want to contact a member directly, but "off-board"
- in the user control panel (UCP) you can designate if you want to receive an email notification if someone responds to a post you made, so you don't have to keep checking back on the board to see if anyone's responded
- oh yeah, and this is big for me - it's crackberry and iphone friendly. While, like dirtcracker, I can login to this fansite and type the shit out of a message, it will not post.
- there are also links to "view new posts," view unanswered posts, or just "view your posts." Especially helpful is the "view new posts." IMHO.
- It's also nice that it shows who is online, who is browsing a particular forum, etc. (when they are logged in)
- you can subscribe to a particular topic (for updates), you can email it, and there is also "previous" and "next" topic feature.
- you can embed pics, urls, change text type, size, color, etc. which is nice since it can be difficult to convey emotion/tone otherwise.

That's about the bulk of the features I am familiar with. It's very user friendly.

Oh yeah, one last thing:

wow........seems as if there is a whole different world out there when it comes to forums......

but whatever changes you make or don't make Mr. D, won't make no difference to me, I will still come and hang out on the Front Porch.

vBulletin is probably the most popular forum software that I've seen. Has all the features that TW mentioned.

Thanks Helix...yeah vBulletin is the shit. I'd love to be able to use it but there's 2 or 3 reasons why I'm not able to. BUT Delerious Tyme got me motivated. A thank you to him and to others who have made suggestions over the past 2 years. 2 years?! Holy shit, 2 years.

After spending a shitload of time trying to find a board that offers the features we'd like, that doesn't require me to go back to school to get a master's degree in programming, and that I can afford, I've found one that I think fits well. I've been working on it the last few days and the initial set-up for it is pretty time consuming but I'm hoping I'll be able to have it up next week.

One more thing...and maybe I haven't said this enuf lately but this is Y'ALL's website. You guys pilot this thing, I'm just in the control tower trying to help. Never hesitate to let me know what YOU want out of the site to make it even a better place for us to hang out. A huge thank you to each and every person reading this (ah hell, even to them's of ya that ain't) for being a part of this experience.

2 years and going strong!
