The band was supposed to start at 9:00, but didn't hit the stage until 9:40. Still, they played a fine 1 hour and 20 minute set. Large crowd....good to see Liz, Ute, Sue and Ashley (nice finally meeting you) make it down after a LONG night in Orlando the previous evening.

hey there stan, it was fun hangin with you finally for a mofro show! in my opinion, jj and mofro brought a great set as an opening act, large and fun crowd!! (we some crazy mofrofans!!) ---------- "Those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music." -Nietzsche
ja? are you the guy i was talking too during galactic set? sam from atlanta? was wonderin what happened to you when mofro started, too much makers? ;) ---------- "Those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music." -Nietzsche
I agree with ashley, mofro played a great opener set, place was full too, nice to see folks come out to see the opening set too, but than again, its jj grey and mofro I can't believe I actually had enough energy for this show. much thanks to liz for being the motivation, and she drove all the way there and back. we had a blast and many good laughs. it took awhile to get thru the tollbooth on turnpike and we cranked and older version of harp&drums and jammed out in the car with people all around us looking at us crazies I ALWAYS have a good time going to a mofro show!!!never a dull moment ;) ---------- "Those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music." -Nietzsche

I honestly don't know where to begin. A sucky venue is on the guaranteed short list of things that can cause a Class A shut down of Hollis' willingness to go along for the ride, it has always been this way.
Thankfully, It doesn't happen often.
So my utter disdain for the the Revolution ruined pretty much my whole night. Thankfully, my wife had a blast.
For the last time, the revolution blows, even when empty, but when it is packed to gills.....get me out of there.
On to the good things. seeing everyone i know in line for tickets, i mean everyone, all together, all jammed up and trying to stay warm. Hugs! Great things! Stan's boss hooking me up with tickets. Thank you sir. Pass it on Stan. Also getting a parking space right next to the door, for it was a tad cold. if those were the good things....how about the show.
all the way thru EGIB, i was planted 15' feet left of the sound board stage right, with a great sight line. Chris worked the sound all the way thru DFC, and thankfully, b/c it was super weak sounding in my part of the room up to that point. we commented on it numerous times, and only had to talk to each other at normal volume to hear. So Ybor City and A Woman, which seemed dialed in musically, sounded like dreck and was way low sonically where i was standing. My wife had a different opinion upstairs on the rail, 10 feet from the hanging stack. Ya think.
It was cool to get a Brighter Days, especially in a different key that I am used too.
During EGIB, i rolled upstairs to see how that POV was holding. Well the crew there was jamming out, and I'm pretty sure I didnt harsh up there fun. The sound was a thousand times better upstairs. "On Fire" was really good, and this is a song I have had some reservations about in the past. I dug on it this time. I think maybe I videoed this one. As soon as Hoe Cake started I knew the set was done, and with Adam standing side stage, it was time for, IMO, the only nastyness, sassyness, funked up part of the show. Worked out Awesome.
So, the take away from Saturdays experiences were these. Footsteps. On Fire. Hoe Cake. And that this line up of musicians is a well honed MOFRO. The sound of the band has expanded tremendously in the one year since I saw City Limits Delray Beach Dec 2008. My wife, who had an amazing time Saturday, commented the next morn' that "the underlying swampy, grungyness we fell in love with was gone". Yep, and so be it. Evolution. Live, this ain't Front Porch Soul anymore, in the least, this is serious soulful rock, with a big sound, which properly adjusted, can fill up a room, probably even a big room. I am super anxious to see these guys in a better setting. This group looks like they are happy doing what they do.
I also heard that the "Stagger Lee" was nuts on the Boat.
And if I am correct, my buddy Schnee won a serious bid off with Ashley over the Lebo painting from MOFRO's Deck set on JC.
Can't wait to see it.
Oh, also, I have never in my life seen guest list sheets that long for a club that small. WOW!!

It’s 2025 and my expenses to keep this site up are just over $800/yr. If you want to help offset my expenses to keep this site up please consider pitching in a buck or 2. Much obliged!
