Well, I don' know, but to me Jan thru May is lookin' like a bad dry spell if you want to see JJ Grey and Mofro. JJ is all over the place but the boys ain't with him, unless I'm reading this wrong. I'm trying hard not to make anything of this, but it sure appears to be a mighty long stretch to not be playing together. It's never happened before. The Dead did it and so did Phish..... Somebody please, please straighten me out and don't let me talk this way

Hello jay s!!
I am sure that Mr. Webmeister (mofrofan1) will chime in and say that there ain't nuthin to worry bout there. From what I have witnessed in the last 2 years, Our Boys have been playing awl the time - damn near non-stop at times. I have reason to believe that JJ is possibly working on the next album, so maybe that has sumptin to dew with it.

Well thought out response Mr. D, and definately appreciate the time you take to share your thoughts with us. You make alot of sense there. I think we awl got very accustomed to having our boys always out there playing, well for me anyway. I took for granted that they would play the Peel in Feb-ish and Oct every year, because they have in the past. For me to be able to see them 4 times this year and only travel 1.5 hours away at the furthest gig says something of how much they traveled. and yes, it is expensive to travel with so many costs involved and the further away from home - the more expensive. Not to mention that the tickets are a whopping $18!! I would pay a bit more to see Our Boys, with out a doubt!!
Good things come to those who wait.
And they will be back, I knows it!!! :o)

Thanks ladies. Worry not folks. All will be back to "normal" before we know it. This is an awful thing for a curmudgeon to say, and if y'all tell anyone I said it I'll deny it...but Sunny's right: good things come to those who wait.
Ash, credit goes to my mother. She was so diplomatic she could actually tell someone off calmly and with a smile on her face. Myself, I gave serious thought to becoming a diplomat; got thru the app process and everything. Then came the drug test...

Hmmmm.....I don't consider this a hiatus, I like to call it a period of re-energizing. In the realm of musical performers, being off for 6 months is normal, hell most artists only hit the road once a year and for some it's even longer stretches between live shows. MOFRO are true Road Warriors and their tireless dedication to touring and passionate performances have spoiled us. We've become so used to knowing that on any given date MOFRO is playing somewhere and it warms our hearts knowing that fellow fans are completely immersed in the funk and groove of some Front Porch Soul, and that a live recording of said show will be imminently available.
For selfish reasons, the MOFRO Fanatic in me is impatient and ridiculously eager for spring tour dates to be announced, but I know that this period of rest will only benefit the fans in the long run! On the other hand, my more compassionate side is actually glad that they are taking some time for themselves, having the opportunity to relax and enjoy their families. These guys give so much of themselves, the least we can give them is time! ---------- Well Behaved Women Rarely Make History

Well said gigs and while I agree that they deserve to time to relax and enjoy their families that's not the case. Since making my long post above I've gotten some feedback from person(s) in the know, and it's the economy.
Bands the size of Mofro are Road Warriors cause they have to be in order to make a living. Not that they aren't dedicated to touring and passionate about what they do because, you're right they absolutely are. And they are truly appreciative of the fans. They really do it because they love playing for the fans.
But our guys and bands like them don't earn enuf in 6 months to take 6 months off. If they ain't working they ain't earning.
With the way things are right now it's become very evident to the band's management that the band would not be able to be profitable during the first few months of the year (although the first few weeks of the year were already planned off). Taking 7 guys on the road vs what venues are paying right now has gotten to the point where they could be playing gigs and paying the venue.
I'm sure it will be nice for JJ to spend some time with his family, and the good news for us is that he will also have time to devote to the new album (hmmmmm, maybe Sunny was right...?)
I've talked to all the guys but 1 over the last week or so. They're not taking any time off, they'll be working gigs in their respective areas. (Dennis...I think is gonna be playing around the Charlotte NC area.) I'll try to keep abreast of dates and venues they'll be playing and keep them updated on the board.
Soooooo...bottom line is that it would be great if this was time for themselves but it's not. If the recession hadn't already come down on you or someone you know, now it has.
The bad news is that as an entire band we may not see them gear up again until June. (With the exception of the Tampa Blues Fest, and of course what's already on the sched--New Years, HOB, Ft. Laud, etc.) The good news is that they'll all be back together again and raring to go this summer.

I got the quote below from jay s a little while ago. It's quite appropriate.

I could mail a questionable envelope with a suspicious white powder in it, to your place of employment...... at the very least that'll get the Department of Health/EPA there and if I'm convincing enough, maybe even Homeland Security. I watch a lot of true crime programming, I feel confident I could pull it off without leaving any forensic evidence. Just call me Giggles Grissom.
Anything to help out a fellow fan! :p ---------- Well Behaved Women Rarely Make History

Yo Sandman, we gotta make our earlier plan of going to Florida a reality now....

...a buddy of mine that is doing the printing for the festival will have backstage passes...

Gigs,
While I appreciate your enthusiasm, the white powder idea is the worst possible. I work in the news media, so then I would have to cover said incident :-)
swine flu sounds like a winner though

Didn't mean to be away from here that long. I have been busy.
I feel if the guys need a break I am all for it.
As a fan I would welcome a break/hiatus so the guys can re-bond with there families and get away from each other (in a good way), b/c I can't imagine spending all that time with my friends if I were in a band. (I'm working on starting a band though). These guys do it every year, and being on the road so much, I would want time to get away personally..so I can understand/relate to them wanting to do so. This includes the bands mgt, and staff that all put on the shows...all these guys have families, and they deserve to spend time with them.
It's like me working for like 3 years straight without time off. I would snap and/or put myself in a marijuana based coma. JK. Sorta.
Yes, these guys are family to each other...but time off is still time off. Re-energize, stay fresh maybe new songs will come out of this and a refreshed band to boot!.
All is good when a band decides to take time off.
Hey, even selfishly as a fan with them taking time off it will increase our appetite for some 'fro. it is really good for both the fans, and the band.
Just my 2 cents. Didn't mean to rant.
