Ahhh, Everybody's...

Anyone been up to Baldwin lately and know if it is still open? I really wanted to hit that place up for a bite to eat when I was in Florida, but not enough time nor a means of getting there from where I was at.

That is one of many favorite songs and would love to see it live. Probably would be quite a bit different now with the set up of the band and the way it sounds on the album.

Yes, Sunny it is/was. I think it's closed but not sure. Others know the story behind the song better than I so I'll let them tell it. The song is about the place either changing with time, or about it's closing. But like I said, there are others know better'n me. Skot would know when they closed and all that, I have no doubt. I'm sure he's been by there.

Yup Sunshine, it is or was as Clay posted.

It's located in Baldwin, FL, where JJ's grandparents grew up and from what I understand, where JJ got his blues/soul education by going to clubs there or sneaking in to listen to people play such music.

As Clay says, Skot will probably have more details and/or be able to shed more light on the subject.

One thing it reminds me of was a restaurant in my hometown where I grew up in Kansas called Everybody's. Use to go there every Sunday after church for Breakfast/Brunch with my grandparents. It closed in the early 90s though. Just another instance of times changing and people moving on. Good food though, always loved going there, as I imagine JJ loved going to his Everybody's, enough to write a song about it.

Click on view larger map and you will see where it is/was, and that it did/does exist. I think there is a picture of it in the Orange Blossoms insert that comes with the CD if I'm not mistaken.

Nice bit of work there DT. So I guess it's still open? I don't know that it would be labeled on the map if not. That's the general area where JJ grew up, Baldwin, and he still lives somewhere around those parts.

If you move the map SW and just above I-10, you'll see Higginbotham Rd running north and south parallel to Hwy 301. That road is named for JJ's family. Scroll out a little more and go a little further SW and to the west of 301 (SE of Macclenny) and that's the Blackbottom area where Daryl lives. (Blackbottom is more of an area than a town so it's not actually on the map.) Go west from there and you'll see Lake Palastine, north and you'll see Glen St. Mary, and Olustee is just west of Macclenny Due south on 301 and you'll see Lake Lochloosa.

Yup Clay, ya beat me to it on the other song related parts. I did not know where Daryl lived, but figured Professor Jimbo should know that. That is unless Daryl has been hiding from him ever since those pole dancing pictures were exposed?

A few more additions to Clay's Mapping of Mofro, some I'm sure alot of you already know and maybe a little bit you might not know,

If you scroll to the direct east of Baldwin is where you run into Whitehouse, right along I-10 and a little north. Obviously we all know that one, “Throwin’ pennies on the tracks and playin’ in the rain.”

Just to the south and a little bit east of Whitehouse, running parallel to I-295 is Fouraker Rd, which I think we all came to the conclusion was the Street that Lazy Fo Acre was named after. We know the song title originated from a street name and I think Skot or someone else came in to clarify that it was the street.

Obviously downtown Jacksonville along Water Street is where the story to the Army Mule Ass came about for On Fire.

I assume we all know where Ybor City is? Clay, I’ll point it out to you later, don’t wanna embarrass you on your own website. j/k

If you go to the Naples area of Florida and just down to the south/southeast is the area of Ten Thousand Islands and Chatham Bend. Obviously for the song Ten Thousand Islands. Basically the group of small islands in the Fakahatchee Bay and Chatham Bend is where it turns further more towards the south.

I believe, but not sure, that on the very northeast part of Florida and southeast part of Georgia, where Amelia Island is at and the Nassau sound is where JJ likes to or is his favorite place to fish. Not positive though. I’m sure Brett (Tox) knows exactly where and has been there many times with him.

Finally, without giving away exactly were he lives, so as to keep Giggles from showing up on his doorstep, I know JJ lives pretty close to the area of where Clay was talking about for Daryl. Although farther east than the Blackbottom area. I guess you could say closer to the town of Maxville. I’ve heard JJ say, if I tell you I live somewhere between Baldwin and Lawtey and you know where I’m talking about, then you know where he lives.
