Caught the show at Club 9:30 a couple years back. Venue is good to go, sound was fine and as I recall it was a short cab ride from down town.
Always great to see fans in different cities that aren't familiar with JJ&M go through their first show. There's the white noise of chatter through the first song, then by the middle of the second song you see that most folks have started getting sucked in... By the time they get to Lochloosa and the faithful in the crowd sing along, the whole place is hypnotized.
Tox, I love your description of the Mofro transformation!!! ---------- "If you've never seen us before, don't be bashful - sing along from start to finish........and dance & feel good.....there's enough shit in the world, let it all out...........Brighter Daaaaays...."
I have been to the 9:30 Club a few times. I saw James Brown play there one year before his death. Opener was another godfather, the Godfather of GoGo, Chuck Brown. The club has a balcony, which is where I hung out. Of course, for Mofro, you probably wanna rush the stage! Definitely a pretty decent venue. Not too much going on in the immediate vicinity, though. But you can get on down to U Street for some action (eat a hotdog at the famous Ben's Chili Bowl, check out some jazz at Bohemian Caverns, or have a hookah at Chi-cha lounge). By the way, U street area is the best place in the USA to get Ethiopian food. Yum! I miss it! Cab over to Adam's Morgan and have an afterparty at Madam's Organ. :-) I always think of Adam Scone's Organ when I remember that place!
Ahhh, I miss my old stomping grounds!! Bringing back the memories.... I wish I was going with y'all! Have fun! Be safe!
