I asked Eva the other day if Mama had told her about "The best sammich I ever had!".........Eva said "Yes - for about a half an hour, she was describing every bite!" So Gregg and I had her over last night again to try to reproduce "The best sammmich I ever had!". I think we accomplished our goal. Our garden provided the onions, garlic, maters, zucchini, lemon basil, roasted Anahiem Chiles. Gregg made an aoili consisting of fresh lemon basil, mashed garlic, mayo and lime garlic infused oil. They were then covered in a blanket of melted Provolone cheese. Grilling the Onions & Portabella caps that were marinated in olive oil and Dales
Grilling up the Zuchs
Roasted Anahiem Chiles
Slathering the Bakery fresh bun with the Lemon Basil Garlic Aoili
Behold.........
And the my friends, is the "the BEST sammich my Mama EVER had!"
Do enjoy all you do today and make it a wonderful & beautiful day for tomorrow it will be just a memory so why not make it a great one!!
:o) Peace, Love, Great Sammiches, & M*O*F*R*O ---------- "No effort, no gain No effort, stay the same No don’t you ever try to live a lie"

Mmmm, that looks mighty tasty, but I gots to have some meat on my sammich!!!
Best sammich I've ever had (actually a Po' Boy) is the Famous Ferdi Special from Mother's Restaurant in NOLA....consists of their killer bread with baked ham, roast beef, debris and gravy......so good it will make you smack yo' momma!!! If you've never been to Mother's, I would suggest the next time you are in NOLA to stop by....but be prepared for a wait.

yes, do tell, what is debris, is it the Olive Salad the one puts on a muffuletta sammich purchsed from Central Grocery in the French Quarter? I LOVE that stuff! It's so good, I can't wait to dip my plate!!
And Stan, you would be surprised at the texture of the Portobella when grilled, it is similiar somewhat to meat and you may never miss it. ---------- "No effort, no gain No effort, stay the same No don’t you ever try to live a lie"

debris (from an article on Mother's Restaurant):
Another signature ingredient at Mother’s is its "debris," the roast beef pieces that fall into the gravy while baking in the oven. After being requested by enough customers, the debris became part of the Ferdie Special, which is named for a customer.
Im fairly sure that they put shredded raw cabbage on the Ferdie Special also. I sure could go for one now!!
And Sunshine, believe me, I would dig right in to that sammich you made above and love every bite.

Why, because all she has to do is show me pictures of good food then doesn't have to listen to me run my mouth for a good half hour?

Hahaha! Sunshine I was thinking the exact same thing, but for some reason I controlled myself from commenting on the hardened state of Stan's tongue and it's possible beneficial uses! ---------- Well Behaved Women Rarely Make History

The latter portion of this thread is beginning to remind me of the punchline of an old joke........ "I knew you were the man for me when I looked across the bar and saw you licking your eyebrows back"
But back to the theme at hand, I am going to try making a variation of those "sammiches" this weekend, minus the mushrooms. I don't eat anything grown in poop! ---------- Well Behaved Women Rarely Make History
