diggin thru those old boxes, finding gems, memories
the main verse lines always reminded of the old "what did you do for summer break" thing you did as a kid in school. and then its like your diggin thru a box and you find those, reminiscing, "show me a way back to those days....", then bam you gotta turn and tell the person next to you why your cryin...."i was born in the south a long long way....."
i dont know, it just all had to come out, ive done 10 listens at least today, so....
and when i said i sing it to Tosh, i mean radio off, just sing it rollin down the road. he just howls back.
skeeter gets chill bumps when she hears, stops her dead in those tracks.
the day will come when i can run it on the baby grand, and just fill the house up. oooooohhhhhhh.
thanks again for this one jj.
and i promise we wont yell it out for request anymore. hahahaha, right.
y'all got anything to say about this one, or is there MOFRO song that just wont go away even if you tried?
UHollis, what a great thread to start. I think Whitehouse appeals to many for the very reasons you have mentioned, me included. It literally brings you back to your childhood; the feelings you felt when you were out there playing as the light of the day begins to fade and yes, Mama calling to get you home for evening vittles, it can actually bring me back the vivid smells of my chldhood too. The mind is an amazing tool.
Many of JJ's songs at different times and for different reasons just about latch themselves onto my mind......I just can't get enough and will listen to them over and over. I sure had my time with The Long Way Home, I LOVE that song!!!!! Some days, I just want to listen to nuthin but JJ Grey & Mofro, Folks will poke fun at me for that, but I find myself very lucky to "get JJ's music" for there are those out there that don't "get" it, and that I find kinda sad.
The Sun is Shining Down reminds me of when my Daddy was passing from our world onto the next and this song hits me hard, deep down, but in a wonderful way. The song is very theraputic for me.
Thank you JJ for pouring yourself, your emotions out to us and becoming part of who we are.
Amen.
Thanks for the opportunity to express my devotion and admiration for these guys UHollis. and I think it is just wonderful that you sing that song to your youngin, God Bless You! ---------- "No effort, no gain No effort, stay the same No don’t you ever try to live a lie"

jj has a way to reach into you and grab your soul and drag you away with him, and you have no choice but to follow ---------- "It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation." - Herman Melville
nicely stated, and so very true - for those that soul he does grab.......only the lucky prevail ---------- "No effort, no gain No effort, stay the same No don’t you ever try to live a lie"
thats where i go with it for sure, and thats easy.
yet if i close my eyes, i am sitting in front of a shoe box thats been tucked away in the closet for 20 years.
i love music
