I like it cause of couple reasons. First, lots of good threads 'back there' but a pain in the ass to find them. And, with newbies coming to the site every day, some that join the board, it's even more difficult to look thru past threads cause who knows what's behind the titles!
So putting the most popular threads in easy reach gives a chance for someone new to resurrect one with fresh comments if they want.
The code limits the number to 19 per menu...so there's 38. If anyone sees something obvious that should be there then let me know and I'll start a 3rd one. After all there are 775 threads on here. (I know of at least one popular one that's missing.)
