Well, only Clay knows what I am talking about here, but what about:
"Took my body to the Doctor. He said, 'Man, you won't make it through the night. Took my body back home to mamma. She said 'Jesus gonna make it alright'."
That one is extra credit..

Jesus Gonna Make It Alright was written by Sonny Terry & Brownie MgGhee and appeared on the album "Sonny & Brownie"......maybe I'm crazy but it reminds me of Blackwater. ---------- When they've tortured and scared you for twenty odd years, Then they expect you to pick a career, When you can't really function you're so full of fear, A working class hero is something to be

Yes, she is good... Nice job giggles!!! As Clay knows, it was a song a while back, in the early stages of this website that I was listening to and right from the beginning said to myself "this is Blackwater!" If any of you listen to the song you will understand what giggles and I are talking about. It has the same Chord and beat progression as Blackwater. Once I heard it, I sent the song to Clay to see what he thought about it and he felt the same way. It's been something that I've always wanted to ask JJ about in person, maybe if it was a inspiration to write Blackwater? Just a coincidence? or what exactly? I know he knows of the song because he has covered "The Battle is Over" from the same album. Maybe when I see them in Dallas, I will remember to ask him and post what he says about it when I get back? That is if I don't get to nervous like I always do and forget....

If you get the chance, check out the album version from Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, it has the harp on it and everything to resemble Blackwater. That link that Giggles gives is great. Piano, the beat, the harp. Just sing Blackwater to it and see how it turns out....
