I first saw them last September here in Seattle at Neumo's, and I can't remember who opened for them. In March, they played by all alone. In July, well it will be three days of blues. In August, we'll see them open( believe ) for Susan Tedeschi, who we saw open some years back for Johnny Lang and Buddy Guy. I have a funny feeling that JJ Grey&Mofro, will give Susan a run for her money, and don't get me wrong, because I think she is one great blues singer, but the fans will get a dose of some Southern kick butt music with these boys.

Yeah I wish I could see any of those shows with Susan. Even tho the guys are opening you know that JJ's gonna come out with Susan at some point. That's gonna kick some ass.
I've not seem them open for many banks. And a lot of times i miss the opener but the ones I haven't included Hobex, Nervous Turkey, Legendary JC's. ---------- MofroFan1 "I've bought houses in less time than it takes for a woman to shop for a skirt and blouse." ~Lewis Grizzard

My favorite openers for JJ Grey & M*O*f*R*O were Trombone Shorty and Sons of Bills. I forgit the name of the band that opened for them at the Variety Playhouse last November, but they were pretty good and the one dude played the warshboard and that was very cool! ---------- "No effort, no gain No effort, stay the same No don’t you ever try to live a lie"

I'm with Sunshine on this one. Trombone Shorty and Sons of Bill absolutely bring it. Matter of fact, since the Orange Peel show, the only other band, other than Mofro, that I have been listening is Sons of Bill. I have a feeling we could be hearing them on Nashville radio stations soon. Nervous Turkey was a good time. The lead singer doesn't hold back.
Sunshine, I think the band with the "warshboard" was Backyard Tire Fire.

Yeah I thought SOB's were pretty good. And oh yeah, that's Ernie from Nervous Turkey. We're lucky enuf to see them fairly often here in Tampa. I'm seeing Trombone Shorty this weekend.
And, as Sunshine and TnCracka can attest, there are many of us in the South that would pronounce that last one as 'Backyard Tarr Farr.' (Not to be confused with a Farr Tarr...which is one of them things built in the forest that rangers climb up in to watch for farrs.)

Hmmmmm.........When I saw MOFRO in October, Hill Country Revue (side project for some members of the North Mississippi All-Stars) was the opener and Cody Dickinson tore up on a washboard solo. I remember being absolutely awed by the sounds he was wrenching from that piece of metal; I had never, ever imagined that a washboard could be played with an effects pedal. I was so impressed I bought every CD they were selling that night =) ---------- When they've tortured and scared you for twenty odd years, Then they expect you to pick a career, When you can't really function you're so full of fear, A working class hero is something to be

Let's see....I've seen Hobex open for them and I saw Mofro open for Galactic (which I didn't hang around for...never really cared for them). All the rest were either just Mofro by themselves, or I didn't make it for the opening band.
Doooohhhh!!! Forgot all about Papa Mali and the Greyhounds. At seperate times though, not all together like Hollis was fortunate enough to witness. Bring back the Bamboo Room.....PLEASE!!!!!!!

This thread is 3 months old but seems time to resurrect it. Wish I could see 'em with Derek and/or Susan. Wish I'd have seen 'em with Galactic as well. Have mixed emotions about Shooter...

I've seen them with Backyard Tire Fire, Trombone Shorty x 3, and Eric Hutchinson which was strange. I'm lookng forward to the Shooter co bill, so long as Mofro is headlining.
