You got it mbb; the official news came out today. Event is Friday June 19 and Sat June 20 to be held in downtown Jackson. Here's the lineup:
Friday: Carolina Liar Medeski Martin & Wood Guster JJ Grey & Mofro Daddy (Will Kimbrough and Tommy Womack)
Saturday: Joan Jett & The Blackhearts Drowning Pool David Banner Koko Taylor & Her Blues Machine Tantric Dickey Betts & Great Southern Blue Mountain Dead Confederate
There's a few of those I'd like to see...Koko Taylor, Dickey Betts, MMW, Will Kimbrough would top off the list (well, under Mofro of course) and I'd have to catch Guster if I could go cause I've seen them like 6 times and they put on a great show. They're an alt-rock/alt-pop band out of Boston, really nice guys. Gotta see the drummer...plays with his hands, no sticks. I ain't talking bongos or something I'm talking real drum kit, no sticks, just his hands.

$25 for a two day pass -- can't beat that! I'm hoping to make this show. I might bring my mom -- who has been wanting to go to a Mofro show with me. Anybody else going??
yes i will be at the show. both days, i will be working the show, selling tickets at the front gate. so i dont know how much of the show i will catch, but i will be at mofro, mmw, and koko. banner is a old friend of mine so i will see some of his show also.
Hey Ash! Ain't the same around here with you not around more often!! Damn, 12 hour shift, missing Mofro...sounds like you're taking things way too seriously.
I guess I keep going back and forth on this. Yesterday I changed my schedule for next week. Now I am off Friday and I get to go to Jackson Jubilee! Wheeeee!!
Mofro hits the Budweiser stage at 8:45 pm. Hope I don't have to drink Bud....

Just got word that Shamarr Allen and the Underdogs are also playing the Jam on the 19th. Check this guy out. Trumpet player from NOLA who's awesome. In addition to having played with Rebirth Brass Band, he's also played with one of my personal favorites, Paul Sanchez, and with Willie Nelson. New disc, Box Who In, is available on Threadhead Records who helps NOLA artists put out music that they ordinarily wouldn't be able to do.
Good to hear from you Greg. I went digging for some cuts or anything from Shamarr but the pickings were slim. Did come upon a couple of vids of him sitting in with Galactic though at Jazzfest this year. Thanks for the heads up!
This is from Jazzfest '09 at the Howlin Wolf, Galactic with Shamarr Allen

Another plug for Guster. Mentioned in the article, they come on after Mofro to close out the night. Musically they're the antithesis of Mofro. But the trophy wife and I really dig 'em. Check 'em out for something different. Ash, I think you'll like 'em. And I'm telling you, the drummer if incredible.

I'll try to see as much of the Friday shows as I can. I am so glad I am going. I need some Mofro in my life! Plus bringing two virgins, and one other fan. Oh yeah, I am planning to tape. Good things ARE going on in Mississippi!

Don't hate me if I don't get to tape. My mom has my "rig" and she was supposed to send it with friends to meet me in Jackson. Now my friends act like they may bail out on me. We'll see if someone comes through. I hope so! There might not be another taper!
hey ashley!! rob and I are going to drive the 3 hrs from birmingham to jackson, since we don't actually have to work the citystages until sat. plus MMW is playin too, all for $15 ! so you won't have to feel all alone while all the other mofrofans are having a blast in boca! ---------- "It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation." - Herman Melville

Oh my goodness, what a wonderful time last night!! I stealth taped the show, but it doesn't sound very good. We had it under a chair on the ground, and you can hear people's empty beer cans clanging around. Oh well. I'll still get it uploaded at some point in the next week or so. I was so happy to see Mofro! They sounded great. I'll post a set list when I go through the recording. My mom met me there, and she loved Mofro. She especially enjoyed watching Art and Dennis get down. Ute and Rob and I hung out all night and had tons of fun. We got a chance to chit chat with Daryl, AC, Anthony F., and Adam. Love those boys! And we saw Mr. Mississippi Blues Box, and some other good people. And we partied til the break of dawn!
I gotta go get my hair cut, so I'll tell y'all more in a day or two. I am on a Mofro high! Wheeee! :-D
Anybody at Jubilee Jam catch Shamarr Allen's set? I didn't make it to Jackson but I did catch his early evening performance with Paul Sanchez at d.b.a. in New Orleans this evening. Good stuff!
