Hell, I am contemplating posting a notice on the front door of my building, so all my neighbors can go see the band whose music they constantly hear coming from my apartment! :p ---------- The only thing I knew how to do Was to keep on keepin' on like a bird that flew, Tangled up in blue
Is anyone from around these parts other than myself going to this show? Anyone? Bueller? I am the shy & reserved one of the group too! :p ---------- When they've tortured and scared you for twenty odd years, Then they expect you to pick a career, When you can't really function you're so full of fear, A working class hero is something to be
I'm green with that there envy Murph. First show after a break, I've a feeling they're gonna cut loose. You may also want to be on the look out for giggles and her 7 friends. Good gawd if she's the shy and reserved one of the bunch then their gonna make one helluva side show!
Seriously giggles hon, I KNOW how you've been looking forward to this. Have a blast, I know you will. And no licking.
I am more excited than a fat kid locked in a room with 6 dozen cupcakes!
Damn......no licking you say? I guess I will have to take a stash of Tootsie Pops to appease my little licking fixation :p ---------- When they've tortured and scared you for twenty odd years, Then they expect you to pick a career, When you can't really function you're so full of fear, A working class hero is something to be
Man, now I am craving cupcakes & blow pops..... Okay, I had an insanely, ridiculously awesome time tonight. Once I have had the time to regain the ability to speak in full sentences, I will post a full review! =) ---------- When they've tortured and scared you for twenty odd years, Then they expect you to pick a career, When you can't really function you're so full of fear, A working class hero is something to be
---------- "Now if you happened to come down here tonight...and you don't wanna hear the person next to you sang, and you don't want'em to dance, cause you might spill your drink, you came to the wrong show in the wrong venue."
Yes indeedy, my little black purse made a jump for it into the toilet, but being quick and nimble, I saved it from complete submersion.
False Alarm!! JJ's piano was on stage but alas he did not play, instead Anthony Ferrell tickled the ivories all night!
The Trocadero Theatre was built in 1876 and was originally an opera house, it then enjoyed a prolonged tenure as burlesque joint before assuming it's current incarnation as a performing arts venue. It still has a real old timey feel and was the perfect venue for MOFRO's Friday night funk attack!
There was a decent sized crowd gathered and it was clearly evident that they were chompin' at the bit to experience some Front Porch Soul! The opening act, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe was a great precursor to MOFRO and really got the joint thumping and bumping for our boys.
Finally at around 11:00 pm just when my little heart was about jump out of my chest in eager anticipation, JJ strolled on stage and opened the show with a blazing rendition of Brighter Days and from that point on it was meteoric transition from one great song to another. As usual, Dennis and Art laid down some funky moves while blowing pure magic from their brass. At one point JJ and Andrew swapped instraments, so it was a great opportunity for me to truly appreciate the talent and energy that Mr. Trube brings to the line up. JJ was quite animated and put a lot of gusto into his storytelling, talking about how excited he was to be performing again after a 2 month hiatus. When JJ tells a story, he tells it with every fiber of his being and hearing & seeing him talk about the birth of his daughter was lovely to behold. In his excitement to get back out on the road again, he forgot to pack his harmonicas, but even without them Lochloosa was just electrifying, mesmerizing the audience with his plaintive pleas for home. Of course I wiggled and wormed my way to the front of the stage, and JJ acknowledged me during Lochloosa, which was a really special treat for me......My gaggle of crazy friends and I danced and sang with wild abandon, coaxing others around us to do so too; so we had our little corner of the floor awash with merriment and joy.....I did get a setlist, which A.C. signed for me, but the live show deviated significantly from the printed version. I will post the actual setlist later. Oh and when I asked A.C. to sign my setlist, I asked him to put some extra special stank on it, and when I looked at it later, I literally erupted in peels of laughter when I saw that he wrote "Extra Special Stank, Anthony Cole".......sometimes people take me a little too literally! :P
Clay let the TW know I had many, many Magic Hat # 9's for her!
I did not make it to the Crawfish Fest today as I have a new nephew, who was born 5 weeks early and is struggling in the N.I.C.U., so I spent the day in the hospital. It would be greatly appreciated if y'all could please send positive energy Aaron Matthew Meade's way!

Oh and Clay, you'll be mighty proud of me, I didn't lick a soul! Though it could be because I didn't have the opportunity to, but nonetheless I was well behaved by my standards. ---------- When they've tortured and scared you for twenty odd years, Then they expect you to pick a career, When you can't really function you're so full of fear, A working class hero is something to be
Giggles, what a beautiful review!! I can feel the vibes, I really can!! Thank you sooo very much for posting! Was there a taper there I wonder? ---------- "No effort, no gain No effort, stay the same No don’t you ever try to live a lie"
positive vibes are on their way, I hope everyone is doing well. ---------- "No effort, no gain No effort, stay the same No don’t you ever try to live a lie"
Giggles - were you at the front of the stage on the right side? (as you look at the stage?) If so, you guys looked like you were having a great time. Which one were you? Sorry I missed you.
A little rough around the edges after being off for 2 1/2 months, but a great, fun show. Totally bummed he forgot his harmonica's, as that is likely the reason for no War/Country Ghetto and others...Can't wait for the next one. I feel like I'm in withdraw.
Yeppers Murph, that was me & my crazy friends, just generally having a fantastic time. My motto is only boring people get bored, so no matter where I go I make my own fun; which is never hard to do at a MOFRO show! I was the one with the long red hair, dancing around like I was on Soul train!
Yeah, I was kind of bummed that he forget his harmonicas, but I still thoroughly enjoyed the show.
On Fire, War, I Believe and Junior were cut from the setlist. I think they had to shorten their planned set because Karl Denson played so long...... ---------- When they've tortured and scared you for twenty odd years, Then they expect you to pick a career, When you can't really function you're so full of fear, A working class hero is something to be

Waitaminute....was that you wearing the blue dress?!?!
>>Yeah, I was kind of bummed that he forget his harmonicas, but I still thoroughly enjoyed the show. <<
I agree, depsite the lack of harps, a great show.

I was all in blue, but I wasn't wearing a dress. I'm kind of short, so unless I was jumping (which I did alot), you probably wouldn't have seen me. But my group were the crazies you saw dancing & singing to the right of the stage (if you were facing it)
Yeah, when I got home and looked at the setlist, my heart hurt a little to see that Junior was supposed to be the final encore, but like I said I still had a fantastic time. ---------- When they've tortured and scared you for twenty odd years, Then they expect you to pick a career, When you can't really function you're so full of fear, A working class hero is something to be

Well I'm sure having a great time reading about the great time y'all had! Sounds like a good time was had; giggles, I'm sure all were pleased that you kept your tongue to yourself. Murph...they crazy.
Thank you both for painting such a great picture for us.
Sounds to me like JJ had a hard time getting away from that new baby girl. I'd be curious to know if he's ever forgotten his harps before. I gotta figure he's having shipped huh?
Sunshine, to my knowledge there was no taper there, but then again by the time I started craning my neck around to search for an airborne mic, I had many # 9's under my belt! Hopefully Murph can corroborate this for me?
Clay, you say "crazy" like it's a bad thing.....
When I get home I will post a revised setlist.
The funny thing about the harmonicas is that my brother in-law was going to bring his in the hopes of getting JJ to sign it and at the last moment decided not to because he figured he wouldn't get the opportunity to meet JJ. And as soon as JJ started telling the story about how he forgot them, Johnny started cursing like a sailor, because he would've been honored to have JJ play it. Needless to say, from this point forward my brother in-law will not go to another MOFRO show without bringing his harp ---------- When they've tortured and scared you for twenty odd years, Then they expect you to pick a career, When you can't really function you're so full of fear, A working class hero is something to be
Gigs is still recovering--honey, go up about 5 posts and read Murph's, the one that says yes there was a taper there. (Don't worry, it takes me a week to recover at my age.) That's sucks for your brother-in-law.
Haha! Thanks for pointing that out to me Clay! Now I can start anxiously hawking www.archive.org & bt.etree.org until the show posts....cause I'm so patient, you know! :p ---------- When they've tortured and scared you for twenty odd years, Then they expect you to pick a career, When you can't really function you're so full of fear, A working class hero is something to be

Here are some pictures from the Philly show. I apologize in advance for the quality of these shots, I was so excited and dancing like a fiend, so they aren't that great.
But looking at them now, I realize I was damn near on stage! :P
