would like to put together a CD or two for the car that has selected live songs since 1999. please post your favorite versions of various songs, including rare gems and covers, special guests, coverage over the years that shows the Moprogression, openers, closers, jammers... For example I particularly like the Grondin Jookhouse versions.
If you dont have the Southern Fried Compilations, ask an old-schooler they should. Compilations were put together by Andrew Clarke, man he taped some sick ass shows!!
For starters...I've always been a fan of the "Down at the Jookhouse>Good Times" track from 2-22-02. Nare Sugar from the same show is outstanding, too. One of my favorite shows of all.
"Everything Good is Bad", from 2-22-08. Must be something about those 2-22 shows.
You're lead song on the first disc has to be, in my opinion, "Feeling Good"...arguably the coolest show opener I have ever heard. The one from 2-23-08 fucking cooks. Within 30 seconds I knew it was gonna get ugly that night...and it did.
I'll post more as I remember my favs. Hope you find some good stuff.
I love your idea and I have made some great compilations myself...but it ain't hard when we have so much good stuff with which to work!
I know Andrew was once a board participant. Maybe he's still out there, just waiting on the right place to jump in.
Andrew?
---------- "All I can say is that there's a sweetness here, a Southern sweetness, that makes sweet music. . . . If I had to tell somebody who had never been to the South, who had never heard of soul music, what it was, I'd just have to tell him that it's music from the heart, from the pulse, from the innermost feeling. That's my soul; that's how I sing. And that's the South."
I am a taper, and a slacker...so I tape alot of shows that never get uploaded. Not because I'm a selfish prick, just busy with life. Good freinds of mine are willing to help by taking my tapes & uploading them. Teamwork.
Andrew Clarke has some of the best damn MOFRO shows I've been at/heard...but will not share the music. I have no idea what his reasons are, and have no choice but to accept the fact that some of the most killer shows that were taped will never be shared.
It's a shame, because he is in my opinion the most skilled at taping/mastering/mixing etc...
All that being said, I vote for the 2-22-02 show (Andrew Clarke didn't tape)as one of the best! And the 4 Southern Fried Compilations that Andrew Clarke put together. He doesn't share, is cold and distant...then out of nowhere he puts together something as tremendous as teh SFC compilations which are amazing! Weird man. ---------- "throwin' pennies on the tracks and playin' in the rain...oblivious of the world around us that was going insane"

Good thread Mofrogunner. We've had some similar stuff in the past. I've not put up a poll for such since last July. We have about triple the amount of board members now, and more than triple the amount of daily traffic. I'm willing to put up a poll at any time providing it's something enuf people want to participate in!
I scoured thru all the past threads and came up with these that I think will help in your endeavor.
B sides and rarities gets to the heart of your question. skotdee alone has 30 or 40 songs listed.
This thread Mosted wanted song is kind of like what you're talking about. Has a lot of people's picks for a favorite song people want to hear live.
This one has a poll for live/cover songs that we did last summer. We had suggestions, then voted on them. Not all that many voted, but it was compiled from a list of suggestions.
In addition to song suggestons on the above thread, here's the poll results. ---------- MofroFan1
P.S. Under any other circumstances, Gr8ful98 (JD) would be on the fringe of breaking board rules. There is no talking shit about other people on this board. But he knows what's gone on in the past, and knows that Mr. Clarke is no longer welcome on this board (i.e., I rescinded his password.) JD has reasons for his comments and they are fine by me.

I'll tell you what's wrong with it. Some bonehead left out a piece of the code, that's what. Same bonehead could check his links once he drops them in too. (It's okay to talk trash about oneself.)
It r now fixed. Once again skotdee has my back. Thank you my man.

thanks mofrofans1! will check out those links today.
By the way we got 6" to 8" of snow outside of Asheville last night. In like a lion! Hopefully out like a lamb for the 3.28 show @ da peel.
This may be a weird idea but rather than figure out which songs and the order I was just gonna follow the studio albums songs and order and put together 4 live compilations, one for each album (if we can find all the songs). This way all I gotta do is select which song-show combinations to use.
Then also do compilations of all of the unreleased stuff I can find. This one will be trickier because both the show/song and the song order will have to be worked.
I may also do compilations that mix released and unreleased songs that flow well. Like maybe a slower compilation with Lochloosa, Sun, Brighter, Santa, Rain, Palastine, I Believe etc... and maybe also a funkier compilation with Jook, War, Good is Bad, Ho Cake, Jr. , Nare , Harp, Feelin' Good, Gimme That Drop etc...
We got 8 inches of snow here in Philly and there is still more to come.
mofrogunner, I think it is wonderful that you are even contemplating undertaking this endeavor; I am sure that however you decide to put together the compilation, there will be hordes of appreciative people eager to have a copy. I'll be first in line:) So thank you in advance! ---------- The only thing I knew how to do Was to keep on keepin' on like a bird that flew, Tangled up in blue

Can't believe y'all got that much snow. Holy shit. I looked at the pics in the Citizens Times today...what a mess. Try to get rid of that by the end of the month please.
