Papa Mali's 2nd Annual Supernatural Ball - 02/19/09 Tipitina's Uptown New Orleans, LA
[By the way, this show was being webcast. But when I called Clay to post the info here, he said the Tipitina's website was down. Bummer.]
This is just the beginning. I'll add more to this thread as I upload photos, videos, and audio.
Here's a photo of Papa Mali sitting in with Groovesect. And who is that trombone player? I thought it was Trombone Shorty, but he was saying his name was something else.
And here's the first youtube video of Groovesect from that evening.

This slideshow is purely my Mardi Gras experience, minus the show at Tip's. Hmm, looks like flickr is having issues. If it doesn't work, try again later.... Ya gotta see these! Here's the link: HERE
Hey Ash...that is trombone shorty's brother, glenn david andrews. I was mad that I missed the Revolutionary Snake Ensemble, they looked like alot of fun. Glad we got to hang out for the end of the show...
Damn Ash, you are quickly approaching Idol status in my book. Glad you got to be a part of it all. Florida in June?
---------- "All I can say is that there's a sweetness here, a Southern sweetness, that makes sweet music. . . . If I had to tell somebody who had never been to the South, who had never heard of soul music, what it was, I'd just have to tell him that it's music from the heart, from the pulse, from the innermost feeling. That's my soul; that's how I sing. And that's the South."
Hey Kerry, thanks for filling in the gaps. I might need ya for more gaps when I get this recording pulled together. I think it actually might have turned out well. Eric, what happens in FL in June? I'm probably moving to New Orleans then!
Guest sit-ins by George Porter, Jr., John Mooney, Matt Grondin, and Glenn David Andrews.
Note: Battery died during track 02, so the end of track 02 and beginning of track 03 are lost.
The recording is not bad. Enjoy! Stan, Kerry, or anyone else, please help me out with setlist and any other details. Thanks! ~Ash
P.S. I'll post Groovesect and Revolutionary Snake Ensemble sets later this week. I know Papa Mali sat in for some of their stuff, so you'll get another dose of the man!

Ashley, you are living in the right moment for sure! You are too kind to share your adventures with all of us. But, I must say that your photo of the chili cheese scallion dog was my favorite. I tend to photograph my food, well, lots of food often. My fam and friends think I am nuts. I live to eat, not eat to live!! Have always wanted to be a food photographer. I do have a very nice collection that would make the cover of Gourmet.... ---------- "Lord feel that vibe, Lord feel that vibe....."
Sunshine, I love to take photos of food, as well. My friend Anne was laughing at me. I don't normally eat meat; so when I was about to chow down on that beautiful chili dog, I knew it was time for a photo op.
Yeah, Clay, that counts. We'll take a photo next time you are playing with you 'food'. Tee hee....
1. [Intro] 2. Give Me Jesus (Trad.) 3. A Call For All Demons (Sun Ra) 4. Slots (Field) 5. Little Liza Jane (Trad.) 6. Goldfinger (Barry) 7. Que Sera Sera (Livingston/Evans) 8. White Wedding (Broad) 9. [Call Back]
Encore 10. Soul Power (Brown)

I'm not thrilled with the quality of the recording, but the show was damn good. It took a while to get communication between myself, the band, and the LMA to get RSE added to the list of bands who allow taping and uploading. Now I hope more of their shows become available. Go see a show, and buy a CD!
---------- It's a Big Easy life.
