I have no idea if I'll go to another show while I'm in NOLA. If anything, I would try to see Galactic either the 21st or 23rd. But I'm gonna be worn out from all the Mardi Gras festivities!

bpetty420: Great choice of shows to see! I saw the 3rd Annual Stoned Soul Picnic and there are usually several guests show up that aren't on the lineup. The year I went the event started at 10:00 and wasn't over til after 3am. Would you happen to be a taper?

Hey Stan,
So sorry to take so long to give you the scoop. I am partying it up for Mardi Gras and am staying busy with all the good times! The show Thursday at Tip's was so awesome! It was like the good times never stop. One great band after the next. I did, however, get there late and I missed George Porter and John Mooney, but I understand they sat in with others later in the nite. Also, I had a recording malfunction. My battery died during Papa Mali's set. I was pretty inebriated by that point, but I don't think I missed much when I put new batteries in. Also, not sure how the recording is going to sound, because my baby mics with no mic stand were behind the wood lip of the soundboard. Didn't get a sbd patch. Still have yet to listen to the recording much though.

Anyway.... I loved Groove Sect and Revolutionary Snake Enseble. And I loved Papa Mali sitting in. Others sat in too, but I don't remember many. Except Matt Grondin, Jacksonville's own lead from Inca Maya. He sat in with Papa Mali at the end. I recognized him in the crowd and had a little chat.

I danced my tail off and I got lots of photo and some video of the earlier acts, with Papa Mali. By the end of the night, I was toast. It all ended at 4 am. Kerry met me there at the end of the night, and so graciously gave me a ride. He's a good dude.

I'll post more photos, videos, and audio when I get to it in the next 2 wks. Hang tight!

No worries on taking your time posting...I know how hard it is to stop once you get on a roll in NOLA.......been there, done that, helped write the book! Glad you had such a great time.....always nice to see wonderful new music that you've never experienced before. Look forward to whatever you were able to tape and to see the photos and vids. Now, just go hook up with Kerry (yes, his is definitely good people) at dba and tape the Lundi Gras show tonight.....I'm jonesin' for more MALI!!!! Most importantly, safe travels home.
