So what would it be like in Pittsburgh? 3 guys from Fla (2 there working and 1 (me)just playing + 2 awesome chicks)Would the songs sound the same? Would they be played with the same emotion and tightness? Had the band played the new songs enough to really capture their feeling? Would the crowd respond to that "Swampy feeling". Would the chicks shake? "You Betcha" From the opening "War" through 7 new songs (Orange Blossoms, Ybor City,Move it on, Higher you Climb, WYLF, On Fire and I Believe) throwing in some Lochloosa, Jookhouse, Circles,Fire Flies, Ho Cakes and Dirtfloorcracker as well as Junior, JJ and the Boys Riped it for 2+ hours.JJ chose to stay on guitar all night, which adds another layer of funk to the show,(not to mention good licks) AC was tight, having warmed up with (Hill Country Review),Scone was solid as usual,Daryl smooth and flowing on the Strat and Art and Dennis practicing new Grove Moves and layering in along with some awesome solos. JJ had a great night singing, playing and jammin and seems to always enjoy himself, especially when he feels it from a great crowd.. and the stories... always the stories..this show he told the story of "ON Fire" I won't spoil it here, but it's one of the funniest. Somehow I think "I Believe" is destined for something, maybe in a Movie? Who knows. So before I wrap it up and bore ya'll to death. I would also like to recognize my man Chris who always has the sound right and tight and Danny for the set list and good vibes. And of course JJ who makes it right and always has time for the fans.
Hey Dougloosa! Fun screen name! Thanks for the Pittsburgh review -- must have been a great show! As for the passion from the band, sometimes you just don't think it can get any more intense -- but it always does! Either later that night, or the next time you see a show. That's one of the reasons we LOVE these guys!! They take my heart right out of my chest and they squeeze it and drum on it and fill it with musical delight. And they give it right back to me so I can walk away with those good vibes for days, weeks, months....
You didn't bore us at all, man! I hope I didn't creep anybody out with this dissecting talk. I might have to go back and edit it out later! Hahahaha. Ok, if you can't tell, I am jonesin' for Mofro!
And that's my welcome to you! Glad to have ya.
---------- They won't mean a thing if you don't live free.
NICE Doug!! Hey y'all, Dougloosa is one of them long time lurkers, first time posters. I met him and his son at BSR (how cool is that father and son go to Mofro shows?) It's always nice to meet a Mofro fan that's at least as old as me!! Plus, he's a real nice guy.
Great write-up for us man. Thanks for giving us the low-down. Hope to see you in Sarasota this weekend!
Wow Dougloosa! Your words were so descriptive and full of imagery that as I read them, in my mind's eye I was transported there. Thanks for sharing and I agree, the little story about the inspiration for "On Fire" is hysterical and really personalizes the song.....I have a very special place in my heart for that song:)
