JJ just answered the question about the name change in detail then rolled right into Orange Blossoms.
Name Change - When his Grandfather died, his grandma had a talk with him and JJ about how JJ's songs are about her, his grandpa, his life, his friend, Trey, who lost the battle with Oxycontin. She turned to JJ and asked why the band was called Mofro since the songs were all about JJ. Sounds like the simple question of "are you embarrassed to put your name on your music?" is what hit JJ hard. Hence the reason for the name change..

I liked when he talked about the music recording industry. how anybody really can throw together a song digitally. but most of the time its missing the middle , the deep sounds, like hammond b3 . Not so many people know the old ways anymore.when they would go into the studio and everything was in the same room, like grandpianos and such. what he was saying about the microphones is true too , they have this whole sound , they just don't make it anymore.
he's right about technology taking over music. they're completey missing the point.
yesterday I was cranking some old ray charles record. listening to him and his backup singers, you can almost see the sweaty, gritty atmosphere in his music. its so alive and warm. than i got into my friends car and she was listening to some generic radio station. it's like a culture shock.
when listening to jj talk I like how he almost never really disses anybody or anything , he just tells ya what he believes and how he is going to do it. lol, I like how he says " thanks ya'll " I could practice sayin that for years I will never, too german

What a lovely way to spend the noon hour:) Management does not allow speakers on our computers at work, so I had to bring earphones in today and hook up directly to my CPU. I was sitting in my chair and doing a seat shimmy dance the entire time......my earphones were hidden by my hair and the girl that sits across from me thought I had to go to the bathroom for an hour :-P I loved the format of this noon show, the question-answer portion really added a level of intimacy to the performance. Last week when I went to the XPN show, I had expected that format, but was pleasantly surprised when it was a straight performance. Hell, who am I fooling, I could listen to JJ, in any shape or format and still enjoy every last moment:)

Y'all are hilarious! I am so glad I was able to find these links and post them for all you fine folks, even though I can't listen.... It sounds like a great show with some JJ Grey insight. It looks like it might later get posted On Demand at http://www.wyep.org/music/ondemand/streaming/. I hope so!
Yuk, I hate Bailey's! Keep anything sweet and creamy out of my coffee OR my alcohol!

Well, my preference would be Magic Hat #9 but I think my boss might notice if I'm dancing around my desk to "Move It On" with a beer in my hand. The bailey's would be easier to disguise, or I could liven up my coffee with Kahlua:-P
