checkin to see if anyone has been to this in the past few years. i am weighing getting the vip tickets compared to the regular. vip gets free beer, so is it a better deal to do the 100$ vip compared to buying the cheaper ticket and paying for booze (guessing a beer costs 5-6$). Was wondering if there is re-entry into the grounds as well.
yeah, i've rethought that too, that is alot of beer, but than again noon till ten is a long time. i think it is sponsored by red hook, so there should be some dank brews.
I don't know any of the other bands. but you're right if ya there for the whole time , you could do some serious damage to their beersupply. I think clay and his trophy wife are going too.whenever he stumbles back down from the mountains.
where do you live axl?

Cool...haven't seen any other suggestions on a pre-show meetup. Anybody wanna chime in on meeting place/time?
I'd love to hear your pull of the show after to tape it. ---------- "I went to London & I couldn't get a woman...but I saw a lady pushing a dog in a baby carriage"

Hey JD, I'm chiming in. But where? I don't know the place at all. I'm sure we'll hook up with your crew ahead of time, but we need to figure out a place for everybody from the board to hook up. I was looking at the map of the event site but it doesn't help. Suggestions??
Axl, I wish I knew more about the VIP too. The info on their website is a bit scant. Everybody's is different for sure. At Wanee, it included meals, soft drinks, snacks, beer, a tee shirt, a place to sit and get out the sun, a reserved area for viewing, and most importantly for the ladies--one of those air-conditioned bathroom trailer things (and no lines)--and you got that for each day of the fest. But other than beer and a "goodie bag" I dunno what you get for this one. So we just went with the regular tix.

we are going north to Tampa after MOFRO to see the Nervous Turkey play. You can ride north with us! ---------- "throwin' pennies on the tracks and playin' in the rain...oblivious of the world around us that was going insane"

Sorry Firefly...going north too. Somebody's got to be coming from your way!
As for meeting up everybody--John, I think 30 mins is a little tight. Some people like to get up to the stage by then (like your roommate!) From what all I can tell, Mofro goes on at 6:00, so we'll probably head back to the soundboard about 4:30-4:45 and then hang til 5:30 or so and then head towards the stage. Anybody else have any thoughts, chime in!

Oh yeah. A great time was had by all! What a great day--autumn in Florida means 80 degrees, sunshine, and a nice breeze. Ed Smith Stadium makes for a nice venue. It doesn't have the rustic feel of a Wanee or backdrop like AllGood, but it's very well laid out, clean and pristine, good food vendors, no lines for portolets and even they were decent.
Festival organizers seemed to do really good, as we saw no hang-ups anywhere. The food wasn't overpriced and was pretty good (from what I had) and the beers were $4-$6.
The crowd size was decent--I'd be hard pressed to venture a guess. I'd say less than 5,000. Keeping in mind that it's just a one day fest in the heart of a retirement city and that ain't bad. Of course the crowd reflected that as well. Definitely more there in their early 50s than early 20s. One of the few times where I'm more in the mainstream and my younger trophy wife feels like she's amongst the younger folks there. (That's Sarasota!)
The guys came on just as the sun was beginning to set. The various hues of the sky at dusk melded perfectly with JJ's velvety voice. And the crowd took to its feet. Up until they took the stage, the crowd had been a bit tranquil. No more. I think even the 100 year old women in wheelchairs were getting up and getting down.
It was as rousing and moving and fun as any set, just too short! Not much chatter in between songs, JJ was trying to keep things on track for a 15 song setlist--not bad considering their timeslot was for 90 minutes and they went on near 30 mins late. They weren't able to jam much though.
Then I got the setlist afterwards and of course there was one more song on it--Junior. Danny told us afterward that they were out of time; Bobby Rush's people had to get ready for him.
The even sadder part was that Chris Bell was there and hoping for a sit in. Tampa and Orlando folks know Chris. He's one helluva harp player that plays for the Legendary JCs, and often will sit in on a couple songs when Mofro's in the state. Check out some shows from Skipper's on the archive and you'll hear Chris and JJ throwing it back and forth. It'll bring you to your knees. It would've been great for the Mofro virgins there to hear that!
The guys are looking forward to a 10 day break before going back out. JJ hung out at the merch table as always and signed and talked to folks for probly an hour.
Our meet and greet kind of fell apart. Didn't see AXL or fnovoa. We hung at the booth for a while, then went up closer to the stage, keeping on eye on the booth. Sorry we missed you guys!!
We met some new folks too and that's what's so cool about seeing Mofro. Meeting others that share our passion! As you can see, we have 2 of them that have jumped on the board. Welcome caroline and leahbeth!
As always, it was an honor and a pleasure to hang out with our friends Elizabeth, John Dude (and his new friend Beau!), and Eric and his girl Susan. Looking foward to Dec 27!!
One last thing. We got to spend, oh, 20-30 mins after the set talking to someone. Now, I didn't think I would ever say this. The ACTUAL highlight of my day was meeting Ms. Linda Cole. To meet one of the backup singers from Orange Blossoms is a treat; to meet AC's Mom is a treat; to meet this lady...I'm not sure words can describe the feeling.
Ms. Cole is one of the most centered, gracious, and warm human beings I have ever met.
Now I know I kid around on the site a LOT and at times it can be a bit hard to know whether I'm joking or not. (Good rule of thumb: if you scratch your head and think 'is he serious or joking?' it's almost always the latter. I've just got a strange sense of humor). This is one of those times that I have to say I'm as serious as I've ever been. Linda Cole is an exceptional lady and I am not only thrilled to have met her, but also honored.

Sorry about no meeting up with you guys. I got lost on US41 and ended up in Parrish. By the time I got to the stadium, it was 30 mins to the show. I did find this gem though:
, met up with a old friend and got to chattin'and you know how that goes....... had a great time. clays review was on point. for me jason ricci and new blood had the best performance of the day....mofro's set was great, but i thought ricci nailed it.
Damn good time! EStanley, Susan, Clay, Jen, Liz, Beau, and everyone else jumping & going crazy...thanks!
Some dude that I know taped the show, but he was jumping around so much a little plug came loose & therefore is missing the entire set. Good thing there are dedicated folks out there who weather the storm & get it done right. Thanks for taping.
We ended up at the Ringside Cafe to see the Nervous Turkey after MOFRO. They smoked till 1am. Good times, funny costumes, flower power totum sticks, and toilet papter. You had to be there to understand that last line. I got to see Clay giggling like a school girl. Priceless.
See y'all at City Limits, Freebird, Skippers, House of Blues & Tallahassee ---------- "throwin' pennies on the tracks and playin' in the rain...oblivious of the world around us that was going insane"
JD, that's so funny, I was wondering about that...but that's all a part of it I guess. No matter though because that "guy" looked like he was having one hell of a good time!
ok so It was my plan to make sarasota my last stop but didn't happen. ya think I could have made it since thats like 1 and half from home. but I blew it out the night before in charleston. so with no money left or a ride home I had to stay on the bus passing sarasota. awesome you guys got to meet linda cole. I believe what you say about her. anthony is like that too. he would be out on the floor dancing to the opening band. I ask him and he says 'i was born into rock'n roll, I live and breathe music' P.S. he is also very huggable ;)
I'm getting some great laughs at all the comments. Firefly, you shoulda told the bus driver to stop, and called us. We'd have figured it all out!! Next time. JohnDude, my gawd man I ain't toilet papered nobody's car in well...you were probly being toilet trained. Uhhhh, you didn't tell her I was involved did ya?
Axl, same happened to us like 3 times so I can dig it. We'll all hook up soon. fnovoa, I was gonna make fun of your sense of direction until you spotted the recording. So I won't. Thanks for your sleuthing skills and finding that for us!! (Yes, Ricci was great, though we were still in the parking lot.)
Here's a review from Creative Loafing that just came in today. I think y'all will like it. The interviewer says he grabbed a video interview with JJ after the set and that it will be up soon. I'll keep an eye out.
Clay..no problem, before I got lost I prided myself on how i was good with directions. Hell, My dad lives in Sarasota! Oh well, I hope you like Brian's tape. He gave me the day off to enjoy the show and he pulled it. It is much appreciated! I had a blast. I forgot how to enjoy a show without the worrying of taping it. Word.

aa...changed their name back to Creative Loafing, I guess after you left town. Same paper, old/new name.
I have pics from the show loaded up below. My camera had a serious malfunction halfway through the show. That would be why I don't have all that many. The camera is in the back of the closet being punished.
We're blessed, ya'll. It's gotta be tough to be such a good dude when you're one bad dude. Professional audience? I can live with that!
Nice shots, Clay...the last one of JJ and our ladies is a bit scary. Looks to have maybe been the "death shot" of that camera of yours....maybe Santy will bring you that nice, shiny, new one you been a'wantin'.

You should see it in color. I changed it to black and white so it'd be less scary. Yep, got about 20 or more shots of the show, more close ups of the guys, and the best lighting was after it got dark and the stage lights kicked in. They're all freaked out like that. ---------- MofroFan1
clay that pic is so crazy is actually kinda cool , in an artistic way. I mean it was the day after halloween. I have a photo of marco benevento and he has 2 heads, weird.
Awesome show! Great warmup for Bear Creek and the Florida run coming up..nice meeting all ya fun loving Mofro folks..I guess you could say I am a bandwagon cracker????or so i like to think. Thanks for the props Leah....much love to your beautiful figure as well.....see ya'll at the Wanee
For anybody that aint met Beau yet...just look for someone as spazmatic as me, usually grinning from ear to ear, will just start doing yoga anyplace/anytime, known to participate in t.p. with this groups moderator, oh yeah...and has a "beautiful alignment"
Beau is the latest addition to the "Orlando Crew", and he fits right in. ---------- "throwin' pennies on the tracks and playin' in the rain...oblivious of the world around us that was going insane"
Hey Beaufro! Glad to meet ya. Hope to see ya at New Years, along with the rest of these fine folk!
