Wish I could have been there, we attended the show last year and they kicked the roof off! We did attend the Statesboro show the night before and they kicked the roof off there as well, the energy was amazing! Love my mofro boys!
What an outstanding performance! As usual. Gregg & I drove to the Atlanta outskirts this weekend to see JJ Grey & Mofro play at the Variety Playhouse with Glenn & Karen. (it was my early birthday present!!) It was one of those small venues that holds about 900-ish folks. Hill Country Revue opened for Mofro, and they were pretty good. It was very interesting to see the washboard incorporated within some of their songs. Mofro played for just about 2 1/2 hours. They performed all but 2 of the songs off thier new CD, Orange Blossoms. This CD is a bit different than the others, but is awesome just the same. Very Rhythm and Blues based. And as always, the lyrics are true JJ at his best. They performed songs from each of their previous CD's and the audience took that to heart. His rendition of "How Jr got his head put out" displayed his amazing ability with the harmonica - just incredible!! JJ proved his worthiness as a guitar player that evening. He did a pretty impressive finish with one of his guitars for the ending of "Lochloosa" that left his strings smokin'. They had 2 encores and one was an astounding rendition of "The Sun Is Shining Down" which he played with deep down soul that brought the house down. Got a chance to talk to JJ afterwards and he was as down to earth as us simple folk. I look forward to seeing them perform at the Exit/In next month in Nashville!! Til next time............ Peace,Karla
