You gotta love dirtcracker. He's barely out of the show and he's sending us the setlist. He deserves a shout out.
Setlist 10-1-08 Lime Kiln Theater Lexington, VA Everything Good Is Bad By My Side Ybor City Lochloosa Lazy Fo Acre Higher You Climb A Woman I Believe War She Don't Know Wrong Side Fire Flies WYLF Ho Cake On Fire Hoochie Coochie Man (not on original setlist)
(No encore; venue has 10 pm noise curfew and show was outside)
Man, looking back at that list, I sure hope one of our taper-saints was in the crowd and got this one. Nice mix-up of old and new...plus they played Wrong Side...who don't love Wrong Side?!
no problem. it was in the low 50s and JJ said it wasn't as cold as he thought it would be. told the story of how it was snowing in Telluride, CO that year and they still played outdoors.
he only spoke to the crowd after Ho Cake and at the end of Hoochie Coochie Man. he was suppose to come down to the merch booth afterwards but security rushed us out.
overall, a FANTASTIC show. i told Clay about my camera crapping out. i really wanted to get a picture of where they were playing. they played on top of an old lime kiln. i thought they were gonna play down in front of the seats so i was rather shocked to see all their gear setup on top.
oh yeah, i didn't see any tapers. only some guy from the college taking pictures, i guess for the school newspaper and then he vanished.

Yeah, it is a great list huh. Bummer about the tapers though. And you're right estan about Wrong Side. As far as I'm concerned they could play that every time I see 'em.
I think this is the Telluride photo. I saw it some time back and bookmarked it.

hopefully someone can post pictures of the venue on here. i can't really even describe it unless you know what a lime kiln looks like. i had no idea until i saw it last night.
Nice, Danny O. You back with the guys on the road yet? If so, welcome back. If not as of yet, well, can't wait to have you back with the guys and here's to the next time we cross paths.
As for the set list, I introduced Mofro to my roommate a quite a while ago and he's gone to a couple of concerts with me, is a big fan, and loves him some front porch soul. From day one, Wrong Side has been his favorite. Both of us have yet to hear it live, same with my favorite of Brighter Days. Believe me, I am eager to know what it feels like when JJ starts Brighter Days on the piano, but never am I, nor will I be mad or disappointed if I do not hear it live. I think it speaks to how good JJ and the guys are and have become as a band, as musicians, as creators of hands down damn good music. There is so many songs that I want to hear live, but the ones that I've heard every time I've seen them play will have the reverse affect in that I would look back at the show thinking "man, they didn't play Junior? Remember last show when they did and JJ was dueling with Adam, ... , that was killer!" Because every show that I've been to and that I've listened to the recordings of have that unique flavor and by the off chance that they played the exact setlist as another concert, the vibe that JJ always talks about, the spontaneous talent that shines throughout, and the crowd makes each and every show an experience.
Danny O. is lucky enough to hit the road with the guys and see all these things, which I'm sure he knows. He's seen it all and it just gets better everyday. If he wasn't such a nice guy, along with the fact that I'm from Kansas and in no way could pull off a New York accent, I would have already pulled a Vice-Versa life switch and I'd be out there on the road living the dream. Just kidding Danny, you the man, but let me know if you wanna trade places, maybe an assistant, apprentice, tag along? ;)
While I would love to hear Brighter Days live, the same urge goes for just seeing JJ Grey and Mofro live, no matter what the case. Give me the guys, playing any song, anyway they play it, anywhere. An open, dwindling bottle of Maker's Mark somewhere on the stage. Whenever that is a reality, there is nothing more to say than "I'm alive, and I'm feeling fine."

I hear ya dirtcracka. So 9 shows it took? Well I'm at 6 right now, so, subract the 6, carry the 3, adjust for new songs on album, divide by number of days in a year, consume some smooth Maker's Mark and if my math is correct, on the third show I attend from today I will know exactly what you are talking about in being graced with The Wrong Side live, can't wait, I know my roommate really can't wait... lol
One other song on the set list and correct me if I'm wrong, but A Woman hasn't been on a set list for a while has it?

I, too, am at 6 shows! By your calculations, DT, I will have seen Wrong Side LIVE before midnight hits and 2008 turns into 2009. And I, too, am waiting for Brighter Days!
You really should come to Jacksonville for NYE! We might all get lucky at the same time!
I actually grew up near a big limestone mining area in Florida. There's a big vein runs north/sound thru the middle of the state bout 30 miles or so from where I lived. But I ain't nary of heard of no lime kiln. Shit, got my curiousity up so I had to blow the dust off my World Book Encyclopedia and look it up.
Do it look anything like this here old one from England?
(That's from Wikipedia actually.)
And for those who aren't going to be able to sleep tonight cause they'll be lying in bed trying to figure out WTF a lime kiln is, here you go: Lime Kiln
eh. not so much there Clay. the pics from wiki sorta kinda not really. i will see if i can do some research.
