More to the point I am going to the Harry O's show tommorow in park city and I have a brand new HD cam and would like to shoot the show. how should I go about this? thanks scott
As you can see, I taped, and have taped a show or two in my day. Just sound recording, the policy is listed on www.archive.org. Video taping they don't condone from what I understand, but with technology is hard to stop it from happening. Danny O. can probably chime in on what they really say or care about it, but from what I got from a discussion from him is that they want you to keep full recordings of concerts to yourself. If you decide to post them, do not post an entire concert, just clips or songs is all. They don't want you to post a concert in its entirety. Other than that, have fun at the concert, I know you will, kinda hard not to with JJ and the guys.

Mofro for life in Arizona The Rhythm Room is exactly that when the boys are kicking it here. "Walking on Moonlight in the Day."
Now I am reminded of a funny conversation with Art after the Fayetteville show a few wks ago. Dang was it only a few wks ago? I feel like it's been too long. "Massaginlizard" and I had a chance to chat with Art and Scone after the show. I was telling them that I got some great photos and videos! Then Art said, "Oh you got some good video?" And I smiled and said, "Ummmm, no, who me?" with a big guilty face. I didn't know whether I was gonna get in trouble, or if he thought it was cool. Turns out I think he thinks it's pretty cool that fans like to record and put that stuff out there. Even though it is definitely against Mofro policy. But it gives more people access to what a show is like -- and in turn makes more people wanna attend a show! That all equates to a bigger fanbase. Don't ya say?
My vids were tiny clips of less than a few minutes each. Not even a full song in there. And the quality is fair. And the bouncing is extreme. So, my videos, if I tried to make a scam, wouldn't bring in any income for sure! So, I don't know how comfortable I would feel with a fancy HD camera recording the whole show, even though you, for sure, aren't trying to sell anything. I'm kinda nervous even admitting I made what insignificant recordings I made. So, no advice here. Just blabbering about my own rule-breaking....
As antsy blabbers on, I'll enlighten you with what I know. In her blabbering she made some good points, as did DT--although he was blabberless. They don't want a whole concert being made available. That said, they will make exceptions to the rules.
If Danny checks in on the board before you go I'm sure he can help or tell you what you may be able to do.
If not, here's what I would do. I'd get there real early. You want to find Chris. He's their sound man. The reason I say real early is that once they start setting up, they're focused. Catch him early on and he'll be happy to tell you what you can and can't do. He's a nice guy.
So, you say, how in the hell do I know who Chris is? Easy. Just remember one word: hair. He's got a lot of it and it kind of like is frizzy--as in not straight. Trust me, hair.
Skotdee may be able to offer some insight as well if he checks in before you go. ---------- MofroFan1

As previous posters have mentioned, video taping is NOT allowed per the policy posted on the archive, as well as mofro.net. That said, kind of along the lines of the SBD policy, exceptions have been made. Lord knows there is a TON of video clips on youtube of the band. I've never heard anything regarding upping one song versus a whole show. The way I see it video is video. I know the shows I have been allowed to video tape have been seeded in their entirety, albeit fully chaptered DVDs via tradersden as opposed to youtube. You can't upload a whole show on youtube anyway, as there is a 10 minute limit on video clips.
All that said, in my experience, FIRST AND FOREMOST I have gotten permission straight from JJ. No exceptions. If I don't get the go ahead from JJ himself, I don't video tape, period. Im not sure Chris would feel comfortable overriding the policy and giving permission to video. Its one thing to grab a quick clip while dancing in the crowd on a digi-camera or something similar, obviously its quite a different story to set up a full blown camcorder on a tripod and tape the whole show. I think the most important thing here is respecting the band and obtaining permission, not to just set up and go with it like you own the place. I certainly ain't saying Im somebody special, and am certainly not above any rules, god knows Im just one of many rabid fans of this band, but I HAVE spent years now not only video taping but creating quality DVDs (in my opinion at least, I know a few others that can vouch for me) with artwork, chapters, etc, to get to where I am with JJ and videotaping. Like Danny has mentioned concerning SBD's, bottom line is if the band/Danny/JJ knows you and trusts you, that can go a long way in making exceptions to the rules such as this. I don't think they want just any tom, dick or harry just coming in and helping themselves. But understand they are just that, exceptions to the rule. The policy is no video. Until that changes, if it ever does, I would make damn sure you have the special permission necessary, again, in my opinion, straight from JJ, or I would not do it...
Good advice Scott, thank you. I knew we could count on you to come through. BTW, I meant to mention that Danny is due back "first of October." I forgot to ask him for an exact date. I s'pose it could be this wknd, but I'm guessing he'll wait until they get back east and hook up with them on the 1st in Virginia (since he lives in NY.) That's why I said you'd have to grab Chris (just not by the hair.)
Alright well that answers my question. I would never disrespect the band or policies and so I am goin to leave the camera home and just go enjoy myself./ ( I am going to try and snap a pic for the Photo contest though) Thanks for the honesty and insight DF
Leave your camera at home.. Dance and have fun. Really should go through proper channels to video a show. It is a privilege. If I saw you there w/ an HD cam and didn't know you, or JJ or the band didnt know you, I would shut you down. Ask Scott, he can tell ya. ;) Not to be a dick, even if clips are small and people are grabbing them from their digi cameras, thats fine. not much you can do. HD cam, lets leave that to the people the band asks to come in a do that.
just my opinion and i do not speak for the band.. For all I know they could have totally diff stance as of now but generally the above is the rule of thumb.
Thank you Danny, as always, for jumping in with some clarification and cleaning up any mess I made. For those of you new to the site or the band, Danny is their tour manager. He's been on sabbatical this summer and is hooking back up with the band next month. His word, I would take as gospel, if it were me.
First of all I thank you for all the input....Second I dont want to hit on the whole HD camera much....it was a $180 wal mart special, not some fancy pantsy camera. But it does shoot a nice video. Anyway I am going to leave the vid home but take a few stills so I can win that contest.

It’s 2025 and my expenses to keep this site up are just over $800/yr. If you want to help offset my expenses to keep this site up please consider pitching in a buck or 2. Much obliged!
