Have any of y'all been on the Jam Cruise? I'm particularly interested in hearing about the trips that JJ/Mofro went on! Anyone have pics? Sounds? Vids?
Havent been on a jamcruise...its on my list...though i reccommend people buy Jam Cruise 5 Jamcam chronicles dvd. It has 6 or 7 acoustic songs with JJ and Luther Dickinson, some tracks have stanton moore from galactic on drums. Lochloosa, Pray for Rain, Country Ghetto are on there, some are LD's songs...I may be forgetting more.
---------- ...when that gal gets down, you can't help but stare, cuz that frame's lit smokin like a signal flare..she's on fire
I've not been on the jam cruise but have talked to some that have and they said it was awesome. In Feb, the TW and I will be going on our third straight "Ships and Dip" cruise with the Barenaked Ladies. Yeah, go ahead and laugh; we're Ladies fans too. Not as passionate as Mofro--nobody can get that spot--but we're long time fans, she since she saw them in clubs in NYC we're they were starting out in the early 90s, me since the mid 90s when "Brian Wilson," "The Old Apartment," "Box Set," and "Alcohol" struck a chord with me (no pun intended.)
It is an awesome experience. These things are literally music festivals at sea. Like 15 or 20 bands, a couple of awesome comedians (if you've never heard of Boothby Graffoe from England he's a songwriter/comedian that will leave your sides aching.)
All the band members are like regular tourists, walk around, talk to people, eat in the public places...all very accessible and gracious. Genres for everyone, music til 3 in the a.m and until the sun comes up and we pull into port in Miami on the last night.
I see where the jam cruise is put on by Cloud 9. I don't know anything about them, but if they do as good a job as Sixthman Productions does with Ships and Dip, The Mayercraft Carrier, The Rock Boat, and the Simple Man Cruise then they're all right. Sixthman has the shit down. Don't pass up a chance to go on a music cruise if and when you can cause you won't ever forget it. ---------- MofroFan1
I went on Jam Cruise a few years back. I think when I went it was the 2nd time Mofro had played on it. My cruise was known for the drug busts as we were all boarding the ship in JAX. I think they arrested like 6 people and half of 'em where from my area (DC Metro).
I really liked the cruise and wouldn't mind doin it again, if only I had the funds. On my trip you could sign up to go on a fishing trip with JJ and George S. down in the Bahamas. I did not sign up for it cuz I'm not a fisherwoman, nor am I compelled to be around, touch, or smell bait, chum, dead fish, etc. Yep, Mo's a girly girl and proud of it 8-) But I did hear good things bout the trip and if memory serves, all the fish caught was donated to some needy folks down there.
So yeah, if you have a chance to go, I'd say do it. It's a great party, well organized and loads of fun.
Ah, yes .... The Infamous Jacksonville 13, actually
Quite a few sphincters were clenched that day as they headed up the gangplank past all those cops with the dogs.
Drugs are bad, Mmmmmmmmm-kay?
After spending $4,000 for a very nice albeit expensive suite with a balcony this past January, that my poor wife spent 3 days out of 6 in very green and sick .... I will be headed out on Jam Cruise 7 alone. She is such a good woman. Apparently as long as the mortgage is paid and the kids are fed, I can go stag.
You haven't lived until you've done a Jam Cruise. Whether it was playing late night poker with the Disco Biscuits with a bong and bottle of Patron in the middle of the table .... Or lounging in a hot tub with Ivan Neville, Stanton Moore and 3 co-eds from the Univeristy of Miami .... It is worth every penny you spend.

Oh that's way cool KingRhino. Uhhhh...does your wife know about them co-eds?? My wife got sick a couple days of our first BNL cruise, and I was a little queasy but this past year I discovered the joys of ginger and her the little patch thingy. She was fine the whole time, as was I. Whether they be supplements or candy, ginger has something in it that helps stomach uneasiness, or some shit.
That's the shit man to be hanging with all those people. I'm green, but it ain't seasickness--it's envy.
I am a very lucky man. Two of the co-eds were just her type. He he he
This past JamCruise was actually the roughest wave-wise they had ever seen. In fact, at one point they announced the ship's doctor would come to your cabin and sedate you if you were too sick to walk down to the sick bay.
A few of the artists were in really bad shape. One of the guys from Soulive couldn't perform. And Warren Haynes of Gov't Mule came very close to cancelling his second show because he was greener than Godzilla.
