i know most of the bigger bands have posters for every show they have, but i was wondering why Mofro doesn;t have one for like....every tour. like a tour poster with just the dates and a cool little picture on it. i know they have a special one for the NYE run.

anyways, i have some great ideas for posters but i am in no way an artist that can piece this stuff together. i'd be more than glad to pass them along to the people behind Mofro and let them know to see if they could get someone to put them on paper.

Clay - you got any info on who i could talk to?

As well as the NYE posters, there have been posters for each CD, at least since lochloosa (Im not sure if there was one for Blackwater), and of course both BSR's. They don't have dates but they're still tour posters. CG & OB are currently available at the website store.

I agree though it would be cool to have one for each tour. Being a poster nut myself I would definitely like to see more. If I could step away from my video/audio obsession for a minute maybe I could put together a few ideas I have... Fan made posters are damn cool too!

i agree. i wouldn't want anything out of the deal except for a poster. i mean it would be cool to tell an artist my idea, have them draw it up, and then get a finsihed product of my idea.

if i was any sort of artist i would print some up for the shows i am going to and give them out. but, again, not an artist.

Great idea. As skotdee said, they have an album poster...one that says Orange Blossoms World Tour, but not anything like what you're talking about. Fan created posters would be great. I can maybe see a contest in there somewhere.

It would be way cool if there are any graphic artists on the board that could put lay out a poster(s) based upon your concept(s) and then it could be presented to the band print ready.

Bigger issue, I think, though is printing. To print up posters on a decent weight paper is expensive. And the less you print the more they cost. Small print runs of posters are expensive. Large print runs are even more expensive but at least it brings the per poster cost down. That all said, for all I know there are cheap poster printers online that could do it (but I kinda don't think so.) I've handled a lot of print jobs for clients, and large sheet size in a heavy weight ain't cheap.

My 20 years experience in marketing is telling me that they don't have more posters because they're expensive and a money loser. It's kind of a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation for bands. You can never sell enough of them to make up for what you spent. (That's why there are still posters for sale from NYE's 2006, I suspect.) But fans really want them so they do them to make fans happy.

I don't want to discourage the idea at all! I'm just tossing out a couple things to overcome. The idea is sound and I think the band would respond well to fan created stuff. There are probably some guidelines they may want to see followed (color scheme, fonts, etc.) so things are cohesive with they're overall marketing efforts, so we could run the whole idea by them first, see what think and get any comments from them so nobody ends up spinning their wheels. For all I know, JJ could say--hey let it loose, whatever somebody wants to do, we'll give it a good look.

Why don't you email me dirtcracker and we can continue the discussion...clay@mofrofans.com I wrote a book here as it is!

Anyone with thoughts on the subject jump on in.

oh i know money is always an issue regardless. i mean posters are a risky piece of merchandise to sell. even some of the bigger bands have trouble selling a run of 400 at a show of 20k people. i saw it happen quite a few times this summer with DMB.

i know that Mofro wouldn't need to do a run that big. i know that Ween only does a run of 50 at their shows and then 150 online through the artist's site. sometimes the run is smaller than that. again the cost comes back into play.

but i really think if done correctly and the posters look "real" as compared to cartoonish stuff, people will eat it up. even those not at the shows.
