Rhapsody's got a little interview with JJ where he talks about the meaning of "soul" music, then lists his top 14 favorite soul songs, along with a player so you can listen to them.

The url's too damn long. Pop over to the reviews/interviews page and click on it from there ya'll.

Hello It's Me!!! Yes, THAT Mo from the listserv message board 8-) I got kicked offa that joint cuz I didn't post for an extremely long time, so I'm over here now. Been in survival mode cuz life's been light on the joy and heavy on the pain for the past several months, but I don't really want to get into all that. So anyways, I checked out JJ's picks and thought I'd make some picks too. Here are my 14 Soul Favorites -

Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell - Ain't No Mountain High Enough

Johnny Cash - Dark As The Dungeon

Loretta Lynn - Hello Darlin'

Ike & Tina Turner - River Deep Mountain High

Funkadelic - Good Old Music

Maze - Joy and Pain

Elvis - Suspicious Minds

Country Gentlemen - Walking In Jerusalem (Just Like John)

J.R. Bailey - After Hours->Heaven on Earth

Ellen McIlwaine - Crawling Kingsnake

Led Zeppelin - Since I've Been Loving You

Jimi Hendrix - My Friend

Janis Joplin - One Good Man

Cheryl Barnes - Easy To Be Hard

I'm a big time Marvin Gaye fan and that was the hardest one to pick cuz I luv all his songs (been listening to Vulnerable a lot lately). I was also gonna pick Coal Miner's Daughter, but didn't wane to be a copy cat. J.R. Bailey is a top Mo favorite and although his album is hard to come by, I highly recommend it. Ellen McIlwaine was close friends with Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. Even though she didn't get the recognition that they did, her star shines just as bright. Cheryl Barnes was in the movie Hair and played the little boy's mother. I like her version of this song MUCH better than the chick on the Broadway one. Sister can WAIL!

20 lashes with a wet noodle for me for this one - I don't have a copy of Orange Blossoms yet 8-( I did hear it on Rhapsody and used up all my free listens to hear it. It's simply beautiful, a perfect gift from the band to all us fans. I promise to get my copy real, real soon.

Peace, Hugs and Luv always,

8-)

WHOA, its Mo! Welcome! The listserv seems to be kind of a ghosttown these days, this place is where its at!

Any of you folks that don't know Mo, please extend a warm welcome, I guarantee you will enjoy having her on board!

And from those of us that do, good to hear from you again, I've missed your insight and commentary! I thought you fell off the Earth!

MO!!! Much love gal!

One morning I met Mo & Steve at Chowder Ted's, day after a NYE show but they were closed.

I don't get on this board as much as I'd like too, but dang it's good to see some good freinds from the listserve popping up. Wonder what happened to Richard & Dottie.

I Can Still Make Cheyenne - George Strait

Falling Down - Tom Waits

Why Do They Leave? - Ryan Adams

spitting these out as i think of them.
soul means so much
think really i only listen to two types of music
soul and noise
and sometimes the two merge to make a uniquely American experience. but soul is behind it all.

"If you take me back
Back to your place
I'll try not to bother you I promise
'Cause it's cold in here
And I wish it was hot
The sink's broke, it's leaking from the faucet
And i'm fractured from the fall
And i wanna go home
But it takes two when it used to take one
It takes two when it used to take only one
Well, my money's no good when i'm up to no good
No good ever comes from it, honest
I got a really good heart
I just can't catch a break
If i could i'd treat you like you wanted me to i promise
But i'm fractured from the fall
And i wanna go home
I'm fractured from the fall
And i wanna go home
But it takes two when it used to take one
It takes two when it used to take one
It takes two when it used to take one
It takes two when it used to take only one"
