Well, been a while since I've had a good ol' fashioned jaw dropping, question producing, or simply put ‘how’d he do that’ post, but I just couldn't hold it in any longer. Probably since I posted the track listing would have to be the last time my childhood imagination helped me post something ahead of it’s time. But, they say the higher you climb the farther you fall. Unless you are a fan of JJ Grey and Mofro like all of us. If you are as such, then you believe in everything, from a river running backwards, to a bee when it stings. Now I know everyone who has posted to date can smell those Orange Blossoms so bad they can taste them, and I’ll admit, I am (or I was?) so impatient that I’m pretty close to getting arrested for stalking the mailman, but it’s worth the wait. It’s worth it’s weight in gold. It’s just time to come to the realization that it ain’t a game you can win. If you’re gonna be down, boy you got to be tough. Yeah you heard, yeah you heard, yeah you know it ain’t right. But I am stronger, stronger now. We just have to wait for JJ, and man o man is he coming home. Night becomes day, but the wait will be over soon. Orange Blossoms is On Fire and it’s not even out yet! When it is, none of us will be able to leave it alone, because it’s like going to that place where the whiskey is warm and the women are too. That’s when I think of Clay and I want to thank him for creating, not just the website of the month, but in my honest opinion, the website of the year and more once it ages well beyond that. It’s like a city I’ve heard of where the women love you through and through. Clay you’re the webmaster, you can vouch for that, right? Well, I think that will suffice for now and I’ll end it with a question. Have JJ and the boys ever disappointed, ever? I certainly have no idea of, nor seen an evidence that they ever have. It’s a special time for JJ, the band, and all of us die hard fans who follow their music. I’ll go out on a limb and say that they never have dissappointed and come August 26th , and going forward, will only add fuel to the fire that they never will. On Fire, right you are Danny O., right you are…

Hate to do this to everyone but I can't resist...

I just received my autographed copy of OB in the mail about 10 minutes ago. It's beauty is beyond comprehension.... my fingers tremble as I touch it..... I love you JJ!

I'll probably write a few things after a listen or two if I get a chance tonight...

P.S. I do feel guilty about living in southern California and having it before many of you....... yeah right.

What the heck does SoCal have to do with it?! I got mine today too! In Louisiana! YIPPEEEEEEEEE!!!

It's so lovely indeed, eh? I like your "fingers tremble" comment! I wasn't trembling, I was jumping for joy! Running around like a little girl! And I might have screamed a little!

Ahhh, and it begins... it is now making it's way around. I got mine on Friday, ordered from Alligator and through the website. The Alligator one came first, still waiting on the website one. To those who wonder how I got mine, well, I called Alligator and they told me when they were shipping thier copies and well, I shelled out the extra dough to get it over-nighted. My gig is up. Was it worth it? Anything with JJ Grey and Mofro always is. I got my tickets for the Rhythm Room, ordered them the day they were available and it's just around the corner. I feel, so, so, ON FIRE! See you in a few weeks JJ, maybe this time they will let me buy you that drink, if not, I got a bottle of Maker's Mark I'll just sneak to you after the show to get you going on the rest of the West Coast Tour.

Ohhhh Delerious that's good! Why didn't I think of that?? Called and had 'em overnight it. Scooped us once again.

I just posted on the "Where did you order..." thread about the ones from the Mofro site. Long story short is they're shipping today, tomorrow, and Wed.

Yup, but gotta be as anxious as I was to dish out the dough to get it overnight. Cost more to ship than the actual CD. Wish I could give that money or that the majoirty of that went to JJ and the band. I ordered from MerchLackey as well. I feel bad that I told alot on here to order through the site figuring that would be the fastest way and provide the most for the band financially. As with the way the marketing and promotion has gone, so has my assumptions, flat out confusing. I'm not gonna be at BSR, but hoping that the hurricane/tropical storm season doesn't affect it in any way. I don't have to worry about any of that out here in Arizona, but my prayers go out to all of you out there who are affected by these storms, be it Fay, or any other that has seemingly tortured the great state of Florida the past couple of years. JJ sings of Florida with such passion, I hope that it stays the way he wants it and inspires him to make albums like Orange Blossoms for many years to come. I haven't stopped listening to it for the last 3 days. I think by the time the MerchLackey one comes, I will be just as anxious for it because I will have worn this one out. It's so smooth that it feels like a sin to push the stop button. Unreal...

Just got my autographed copy today. I have listened to it three times before I could get focused enough to post. Oh, it was so worth the wait. Enough typing, back to the music of Ybor City. Peace.

...speechless. This is beyond expectations. It's reached a level that we've all known could be done, would be done, and now has been done.

JJ Grey & Mofro just became even harder to describe and pigeon hole into a certain genre. Hell, it's hard to put them in only one subgenre. Of course music is very subjective. And so are the words used to describe it. So how do you sum up R&B/Soul/Funk/Blues at this level? Is there any other band that sounds like this? "Front Porch Soul" is cool, but I'm sure all of you have had the experience of describing Mofro to someone who's never heard of them. Front Porch Soul makes a statement, but only makes sense to some people. How do you tell people that don't know just how good this is??

(That's not to say that the previous 3 haven't been excellent!)

For sure we can all agree that Orange Blossoms has more groove. At times it's pure R&B, other songs are just dripping in soul. There's some real funkified tunes and others that go straight to your heart.

JJ's voice, man, at (near) 41 years old, it's absolutely amazing. It's like a fine Kentucky whisky--the longer it ages the better it gets. There's not enough 'o's in 'smooth' to define his singing.

Of course I could go on, especially about how all the guys sound, and the ladies, but this post will run on til next Tuesday and I got something to do that day.

More to come later...

A couple quick thoughts after my first 2 listens:

The title track is an absolute classic that I will never, ever, ever get sick of listening to.

The backing vocals (especially on Devil You Know and Everything Good Is Bad) are subtle but add so much - I'm shocked he doesn't use a backing vocal section on the road.

The production value is amazing - JJ and the boys are getting more and more comfortable in the studio with each album. It still doesn't approach the live stuff, but it's amazing to listen to...

my 2 cents...

Skam, that's worth a lot more than 2 cents. You're right. They really are much more comfortable, and the production values are ideal.

There's not as much grit and roughness around the edges like Lochloosa and Blackwater. I think those two elements contributed to why we all fell in love with Mofro. But like all relationships, they change. We grow, the band grows, the world grows around us.

It's seems to me a natural progression. As the band has grown JJ has become more aware of his music, and more aware of what he wants out of it, and ideally even more talented than before.

The musical compositions on this are incredible! What he did with the string section on Dew Drops so fits the song.
And I think 'I Believe' is one of the prettiest songs I've ever heard.

And I'm so happy that the band we hear on the album is what we'll hear on the road. It's great to have a permanent horn section isn't it? Art and Dennis killed on this thing. And how about AC ya'll. And doubts now? Just wait until you meet him, he's just as easy-going as the rest, he's funny, and he is SO appreciative of the fans.

IT'S GREAT TO BE A MOFRO FAN!

NOTE TO DERLERIOUS TYME: No sweat. If you hadn't directed people to Mofro's site to buy it, I would've. It's logical. Now we know.

NOTE TO ANTSY ASHLEY: Did you really say "Holy sh*t-b@alls!!"? Damn honey, you ARE a potty mouth, aren't you?
