My sincere apologies to everyone not going to Blackwater Sol Revue. This post is for them that are. It does NOT mean that we do not love ALL OF YOU. It just means that I live in Florida; if I lived where YOU live then this post would be for you.
That said, for them that ARE going to BSR I wanted to see if we should have a little get-together, tailgate, whatever. Thought it might be a good opportunity for us to put names and faces together.
I've thought about the logistics a little. First, the weather. Last year it started storming about noon and kept going until after the first show started at 2. As we know, the weather is so iffy this time of year.
If we wanted to do a tailgate thing, I've been wanting to get one of those portable little (10 x 10) tents; ain't gonna keep too many people dry though. If anyone else has one, and we can get 2 or 3 up that could work. Depends upon how many people are gonna come.
As for time, working backwards...gates are 1:00 and Nervous Turkey goes on at 2:00. (Last year the crowds didn't start rolling in until about 4:00 or so, but the weather probably had something to do with that.)
So if we wanted to tailgate, if we got started, say, at around 11:00 a.m. that would give us 3 hours for people to come and go, or hang the whole time, before Turkey.
I'll figure out a spot in the main parking lot for us to congregate and put it up here before-hand.
We could just do beer and snacks, or go for the whole barbeque thing...do burgers or brats, or boil shrimp, or whatever.
Alternatively, if a consensus doesn't like that idea, we could pick a spot inside the amphitheater where we could meet up at a certain time or something.
Ya'll jump in and talk about it and we'll go from there.
I'll be at BSR. My first trip to St. Augustine so I am pretty damn excited. My friends and I went for the VIP tix. Does anyone know what this really gets you? I know access to the after party and a possible meet and greet. I don't know anything about the actual seating though. Can anyone shed any light for me?
Looking forward to the show and meeting all the great fans of this wonderful band. Since seeing them kind of by accident last summer for the first time here in Greenville SC, I swear that one of their albums has been playing everyday.
Hey Brigzz! Thanks for sliding into the board again. They are infectious aren't they? Yeah, rarely a day goes by that I don't listen to some. I assume you know about the archive where you can download live shows. If not, check out the 'live recordings' thread.
My wife and I did the VIP last year and are doing again. Here's the lowdown:
As far as seating, I dunno. Last year it said same thing about special seating, but I asked like 4 different patrons and they all said that all seating was first come/first serve--even when I showed them my VIP badge. One little old battleax bitch pointed her cane at me and yelled: "BADGES! BADGES?? WE DON'T NEED NO STINKING BADGES!!"
I didn't know what the hell that meant, but I got the bloody fuck out of there.
I'm 'specting this year they'll have like a roped off area or something, I hope--for the extra $$$.
They've a good sized dance floor, by the time Toots finishes the front of the stage will load up; becomes more standing than dancing. If you want to get good and close, that's your best bet.
Also, go to the photos page, and there's a link to last year's BSR with a few photos.
If you copy and paste this page http://www.staugamphitheatre.com/seating.php there's a seating chart. Note the stage at the bottom--red rectangle. That includes the stage, the wings, the backstage, dressing rooms. Looking at the rectangle, by the wheelchair symbol on the left, there is a rope gate there if you take a left as if to go around the left side of the building (right side if you were facing the stage.)
That's VIP area, includes air conditioned rest rooms (the public ones are too, they're just all the way at the top of the amph. In the back left, is a patio and an air conditioned room that I would guess is about 600 sq feet. Chairs, table--nothing fancy--a place to cool off. Also it's where the meet and greet is. It holds probly 100 to 200 people, and it worked fine. They line up where you can go through like a buffet. It gets real hung up at JJ, and the other guys at some points are standing their cutting up with each other so you can just go up and yak with 'em. They stay out for maybe 20-30 minutes, and last year it was between sets of the 2nd and 3rd act. That's also where you get the signed poster, although it sure would be nice if they'd spring for tubes this year. (In fact I'm glad I said that--I'm going to pass that along.)
I can give you more later, but I've got to run to an app't! ---------- MofroFan1

pretty much what Clay said about everything is spot on...
as far as seating, VIP gets ya access to the first level of seats in the center, but its still GA. The floor, first level sides, and all of second level seats are GA for regular ticketholders.
I sure as hell showed my age with that one. But thanks, hell I even cracked myself up with that. (And maybe I was hallucinating cause my wife said WHAT are you talking about?)
Tell the truth, I kicked around a few other words but I was trying to keep it clean. Yeah, for 'battleax' to pop into my head, gotta be from watching too many (60's) sitcoms as a kid...or Bugs Bunny. ---------- MofroFan1 "When I get to Ybor City all them women gonna treat me like a king."

It’s 2025 and my expenses to keep this site up are just over $800/yr. If you want to help offset my expenses to keep this site up please consider pitching in a buck or 2. Much obliged!
