Hey Axl, before you said that Jr was just a slide betweel the E and A on acoustic and harmonica. What key do you play the Harmonica in? I've been using a straight C/cross harp G and I am sliding between the G to D on the drop in the main riff. I don't even hit an A until the high note needed to start the chorus? If you are around, still posting, or can shed any light on this, I would much appreciate it. Thanks you much in advance. Keep spreading the Mofro... Getting closer everyday to the new album and yet another unbelievable concert.

No worries Axl, thank you much for the post. I was just checking to see what you had for the key compared to what I was messing around with. I think you are right on. I had the right way to play it on the harp, just hadn't found the key yet. I was playing it in the wrong key and my girlfriend was always like, it sounds close, but something is missing. Now I have it right on. Thanks man. Much appreciated.

What kind of harps do you and your buddy use? I talked to JJ the last concert I saw them back in April and was talking to him about harps, like I always do when I talk to him. Well, he said he moved to playing Herings and I bought a 6 pack of keys shortly after. They are cheap and nice. Smaller company and a little bit more handcraft goes into them from the look of it. Other than that, I have Hohners, Lee's and a couple of Suzuki's.

Thanks again and feel free to bounce some questions off me if you wish, hopefully I can answer them. I will do the same if it's not a bother. Once I get a good list of keys and maybe tabs of JJ songs, I will give them to Clay, the webmaster to post and that way all the Harp players that wanna mix it up like JJ can groove to that front porch soul like the rest of us.

Those chords work for the Long Way Home as well, or do either of you know the chords for those? I have the Harp part down, but if I knew the chords to Long Way Home, could easily figure out the piano part.

Hey UHollis,

You said you've been playing alot on the piano, do you know of, have, or any form of the sheet music on piano to Brighter Days? I have the chords, and have been working off of that, but it's taking quite a while to get the melody of the Brighter Days tabbed for piano. Thought maybe you might have some insight or could help.

Oh, by the way, you're still the man...

Thanks

Hey DT,

I just sat down for a minute with a keyboard and the Blackwater CD. It seems pretty obvious that Brighter Days is in the Key of C, no? Goodness gracious I would love to learn to play this song. I haven't played the piano since I was 14 years old. But I was always good at sight-reading. Must...have...Brighter Days....

Dang -- I just messed with it again. Is that A?? Oh I am confused. Never been much for playing by ear!

I've made progress. This is definitely A minor -- perhaps my favorite key! If I didn't have an exam tomorrow, I would totally work on this song tonight!!

Antsy,

I'm pretty sure it is in F, but A minor is the closest thing to the F. I started by going through the harmony, chordwise first. Try F - G - C al the way through and I think you will hear it. It's just the melody, single note octave playing on the keyboard that I am having trouble working through.

Let me know what you think or come up with.

I have Everybody's, On Palastine, and Lochloosa, album versions tabbed out on the keyboard. If you want them, let me know and I will transfer it onto the computer and send it to you. Then if you want, you can follow it and make changes to my mistakes, which I'm assuming are plenty, but if we get enough of a following and more than a few reviewing them, we can have clay post them on the site for people to have to play and enjoy just like we are, or are trying to do.

Although, I do like firefly's solution. I've been to 6 shows now and tried to buy a drink for JJ at every show. Even got to sit on stage with them for a set and they wouldn't let me buy JJ a drink. So, what do I finally do, well, I purchase liquor for a resort hotel, so I have a few ties to the business. Hook up with a 1 liter bottle of Maker's Mark, wait until after the show, asked JJ that if I had something for him, if he would take it, not wanting to offend him or anyone. He of course replied, "sure brother, I'm here all night, just let me know." And he was there all night, my girlfriend went to the car to get it as he signed a poster and chatted for a bit. Came back and had to wait a little bit to give it to him as other fans were in line to meet and greet. Finally, he had the time, opened the bag all excited as to what it was, to which I told him, "I got you the answer." His eyes lit up, his smile got bigger than it already was from the killer set and crowd response. He went back to signing and greeting fans, turning around ever so often to look at the bottle and probably make sure it was still there. Shook his hand and I thanked him for doing what he does, making out to Arizona so often, and just for being who he is. I've been hearing alot about the SF and SD shows. Maybe I'll take some credit for getting JJ going on the west coast run with that bottle. I'm sure he's finished it off by now, but low and behold, there will be another one waiting for him when he gets back, that's for damn sure. Oh, and just kidding about taking credit for those shows, as if JJ plays a bad show or needs inspiration to put on a show that will be talked about for years to come. It's like clockwork to him and the guys. When you got it, you just got it. I think the correct term is ON FIRE!

Hey DT, that is a real cool offer. I would definitely be interested in seeing what you made out so far. Though, I don't have lots of time to play around with it right now. But that might not stop me. Too exciting to be getting back on a keyboard -- and it's MOFRO! Clay's got my email address if you want to pass it that way. Don't go out of your way though, man. Take your time.

Gonna have to see how F sounds with Brighter Days this weekend. Thanks for the tip!! You rock! How long ya been playing piano?
