Jacksonville is going to be your best bet. It's about 40 miles to St. Aug from there.
You want to avoid 4 pm to 6:30-ish cause the airport is way on the north end of Jax and you have to come through town to get to St. Aug--even the bypass is bad because everyone's using it to get to the burbs. If you arrive in that time range the normal 45 to 60 min drive will be more like 90 mins to 2 hours.
You got room booked? I haven't had a chance to update what I've researched on rooms and stuff (but I'll be getting it on the board here in the next few days) but if you need any help on that, email me at clay@mofrofans.com and let me know what you're looking for and I'll see if I can give you any insight.
Glad you can make it!! You'll love it, for sure. And we'll figure out a place to meet up face to face!
Thanks ya so much...Im meeting up with several friends and fans and are planning on renting a house of some sort for the weekend. If you know of any good beach rentals please feel free to share. Man, thanks again for your time and info. I cant wait to get loose and have a blast...havent seen the boys since Tips in NOLA. Take it easy...Peace
Hey dude...there's lots of house/cottage type rentals there. I'd start calling around damned soon though, since it's Labor Day wknd.
Perhaps if Jimbo is lurking around, and, if he knows of anything, he'll jump in and let you know.
I don't know anything specific to rent, but here's what I can tell you. St. Aug Beach isn't all that big, relative to the large beach areas with lots of stuff like Miami/Ft Laud, Ft. Myers/Naples, Tampa/St. Pete, Daytona, Panama City/Pensacola/Destin. Meaning you got less choices.
SAB retains a little of the old Florida beach feel, but as JJ sings about, it's going away. Just like the other barrier island beaches throughout the state, mom and pop hotels and quaint beach homes and cottages are selling out for big bucks to large hotel chains, or condo developers who have the money to build vertical on the spit of land they just paid millions for. Again, meaning there are a lot less choices than there used to be, unless you have a decent-sized budget.
People with huge bucks come along and buy 2 or 3 cottages in a row, rip 'em down, and build one big-ass house. While I admit to driving by them and going "wow," I quickly see how the landscape, literally is changing, and figuratively as well...the rich are driving out the working class that used to be able to afford the dream of a little place near the beach.
Whew! That all said, you can find rentals of all shapes and sizes, depending on your price range. At low end...beware! Like anything on the beach, salt and wind wreak havoc on houses. Some rental owners don't keep up their units for shit. As a general rule, go with the ol "If it sounds too good to be true..." adage.
K? And let us know what you find out! ---------- MofroFan1
