Wow! so I've been in North Carolina since '86, but didn't hear a true funk/blues sound that could get my adopted southeastern blood boiling like the Mofro!
Given a Country Getto CD in August of '07 we jamed it out all the way through newyears. Then come to find out the boys are doing a gig at the Pour House in Raleigh. What a show! As all of you vets know, the Band is outta sight live. 3 pints of #9 helped put it tight.
After the show, I was wanting to relive the experience again in 2008! Couldn't make it to the Orange Peel in Asheville, and Missed the Scottsdale, AZ show by 3 days while on a business trip.
Well, I must say I was pretty floored when I saw on the tour schedule that Mofro was going to be in my home state and only a half hour drive from the 1500 Sqft 1969 ranch house I grew up in. Well after 3 plane tickets and a order of tickets at the Will Call, I'll be watching the band in the Green Mountain State. For a 40 year old, that's the best I can do to go on tour again (Phish Fan). I hope I can get a quick thank you to JJ while I'm up there and have been spreading the word to my old cronies up in the great white north! Maybe an early 25th HS reunion!
Looking forward to a good set!
- NC Damned Yankee
PS For those of you outside the south a Damned Yankee is a yankee who came down south and decided to stay! I've been reminded of that several times, but my Grandmother is from Eutaw, Al so often I get grandfathered in. At least that's what I make up in my head...
I've heard the Pour House is way cool. I saw the boys at the Peel a couple years back and it's a great venue. Sounds like you've become one of us--the first time you hear them you either get totally hooked, or you're ambivalent; and fuck them, as we say in the South (hmmm, I guess that's said elsewhere too?)
When you bust ass to get plane tix, will call tix, and go all the way to VT from NC--yep, most definitely one of us. And to see them in your old home town--how cool is that?? WOW.
Ya'll be sure and take lots of pics and enter the photo contest when you get back. And if you get a copy of the setlist, we'd all be much obliged. Let your friends know about the site too, if'n you don't mind. Tell 'em to jump in the photo contest too!
Before the guys come on, take note of which side of the stage set-up (right or left) that has a gate, opening, walkway, or something to that effect. It will also have some sort of security. That's where JJ will hang out after their set and he'll hang out pretty much until he's talked to everybody that wants to. He'll sign stuff, and you can take your pic with him. He is SO GREAT about stuff like that, and makes you feel sooo at ease, he's incredible.
The guys are on fire right now. Probly more in sync than they've been in the last 2 or 3 years, which I know is hard to believe, but by all reports is the truth. I'm green with envy! Won't get to see them until end of Aug!!
Keep spreadin' the swamp funk, ---------- MofroFan1
Oh...we also call ya'll Carpetbaggers; wee ant so dum ass wee luk yuknow...
When they played in VT last October it was like a dream come true. I attended college in the Northeast so it was fantastic to have them come up my way. I'll be seeing them play in Buffalo the day before they play Higher Ground again. Can't wait to hear some of the new stuff.
Ya'll let us know what the shows are like. (There'll be a pop quiz at 8 a.m. sharp the next morning.)
From what I've read and heard so far, I don't think they're going to do any of the new stuff until BSR. But ya'll better damned sure let us know if they do!
Wow, VT in the summer; it's GOT to be nicer than Tampa right now. (And is a whole lot prettier than Tampa will ever be.)
Enjoy; Have fun; be safe; take pics and enter the photo contest!! (New prizes to be added soon; 2nd and 3rd place being added too.) ---------- MofroFan1

It’s 2025 and my expenses to keep this site up are just over $800/yr. If you want to help offset my expenses to keep this site up please consider pitching in a buck or 2. Much obliged!
