I was recently turned on to Mofro a couple years ago and have only seen him live twice. I am hoping to catch alot more shows coming soon. Just thought I would join this group to meet other Mofro lovers.
Welcome aboard Kerri! Glad you joined up. The site just started in Feb, and growing every day. Glad to see a member of the fairer sex join in. There's a few other women, but thus far there's way too many ugly guys on here. We needed some class and beauty...so thanks very much and talk soon! ---------- MofroFan1
greetings everyone, i just found this site thanx to the jambands.com action that you've received...I love the site.
I first saw the boys at the Florida Music and Film Harvest in 2002 and life now includes 2 yearly Skippers shows and the usual apperance at Langerado (w/exception of this year), so I went to Wanee and Langerado.
I've been to the NYE show's 3 times now and my wife is officially a bigger fan than myself.
It is great to find such a great site where everyone get's the soul and feeling that Mofro puts into their music and performances. It really is sad that George has left the band but I also miss Fabrice on the bass and the other keyboard player prior to consolidating to Adam. These kind of things happen and quite frankly the band is JJ and his lathargic sidekick Daryl.
I went up to Bele Chere a couple of years to see JJ sitting in with Galactic (another one of my favorite bands), and I witnessed Art and JJ bonding on stage during that set. Art played earlier in the day in the Gambell Brothers and JJ and Galactic immediately liked his playing and had him on stage for the majority of their set. They played alot of Mofro songs and quite frankly they did sound quite abit more funky and tight with Galactic backing the band, but it wasn't the same.
I'll quit rambling, it is a pleasure to meet everyone on this board.
Hey Mikep...welcome! Thanks for all the nice words. No doubt Mofro fans are the best.
I laughed, in agreement, with so much you said...my wife's even a bigger fan than me, we go to all the Skipperdome show's and NYE---this year went to all 4 nites, and just did Wanee for the first time. We're dying to go to Belle Chere someday cause we LOVE Asheville. Geez, man, we all gotta link up.
Jump on in anytime and keep on spreading the word...ain't nobody better than JJ Grey & MOFRO.
Thanx for the kind words and once again for creating this site... we definitely need to get together at some point, are ya'll in tampa, i'm in st. petersburg...i have turned so many good people on to the sounds and pleasure created from a live Mofro show, it is great to get to know some of those folks that I've been dancing and singing along side of for the past 6 years.. i hate to admit this on this board but I actually helped book the band for a festival a few years ago in Indiana where the main promoter screwed up a bunch of money. I personally spent $4500 on the band for a deposit and they didn't even get to play. I've since got my money's worth from spiritual live shows shared with my lovely wife. Hell, I personally got the boys to play Brighter Days as an encore at the Skippers show back in the fall by screaming it over everyone else's need to hear the frequently played Ho Cake. I want to hear people screaming for Wrong Side or Nare Sugar, that is a mofro fan!
Yo, Mike P...OMG, $4,500! That's a helluva story, man. I've heard of shit like that happening before, but never actually known someone. You're true blue.
I was at the Skipper's show you're talking about. I've got photos for that show to still load up. Don't remember you screaming out, but not your fault, it's mine. Just too little time, so many brain cells to kill.
Yep, Northwest Hillsborough. About 15 mins from the Skipperdome. We'll have to hook up for sure. ---------- MofroFan1
to mikep: i hear ya on the song requests! Nare Sugar could cure an illness. i scream for that song every show! i don't know anyone that can sit still while that song is playing!
i say sing along is ok, unless you're louder than the band. i would rather hear sometone singing along than talking on their effing cell phone about what shelly did with stan 2 hours before whitney came over to dan's house and caught his mom throwing the cat outside in the street.
but thats just my opinion. but now like at the beginning of Lochloosa, if JJ tells ya to sing, belt it out till the persons throat beside of you hurts.
Oh my goodness, I sing along all the time! Now I am wondering if I sing too loudly.... You people are making me self-conscious. At shows, JJ always tells people to sing along. He loves it.
But I definitely never yell out songs. I know they have their set list determined and it is not up to me to try to get them to change it up in the middle of the show. But I don't knock anybody for tryin'!

I personally don't mind people singing along. Myself, I pay to go and "experience" a concert, and part of my experience is getting to sing along on my favorite songs with the band. Why else do I practice in my car? HAHA
I think there is a point where at times people can get annoying but most of the time they are just enjoying themselves. If I don't like it I will gladly move on down the line to a spot where I am not bothered. I think the band loves when they get to hear their great fans sing along. I'm in a band myself and when you get a room full of people screaming out and joining in in what YOU are doing it is exhilarating.
If you can go to one of their shows and just stand there and not join in on songs like Lochloosa / Woman / Sun is Shining Down / Fireflies / brighter Days then you have MUCH more control than this avid fan does. :~)
Just my two cents ... which is not worth a whole lot these days hahaha
Last show in Orlando, myself & the Orlando crew got a little rowdy. We were dancing & screaming & singing along. JJ said to the crowd, "If you came here to hear the band & don't like others singing along...then buy the f*cking record & listen to it at home on your stereo. This is a live show, we drink, we dance, we holler." He also stated several times how good it is to play to a "rowdy & ready crwod" I admit that I was abit out of control, and we sang the wrong lyrics to Stagga Lee...got JJ mixed up too since we were all singing together. I forget the date, but it's around Feb. 08 in Orlando @ the Social. I taped it, should be out on archive or something. If not lemme know & I'll upload it.
Bottom line, it's about an energy exchange. The band gives off raw energy & we the audience give off a raw energy. When they meld together is blissful, energetic, and I've been known to get absolutely retarded with excitement. As much of a spaz as I can be, I ain't never got kicked off the bus or asked to leave yet...and I've acted like a real ass more than once and in different cities/states. JJ/Danny if your reading this...I'm back on the wagon so no more drunken debacles.
And I usually call out for songs like Dewdrops(before OB), Take it Back to the Bridge, Skinny Woman, Poonani(y'all remember that one), Homework, Skeeter, Home Sweet Home. I believe JJ & the band like to hear from fans who know more than just the studio stuff.
Just my opinion on the subject.
Oh, welcome to the group Kerri ---------- "I went to London & I couldn't get a woman...but I saw a lady pushing a dog in a baby carriage"

damn john, you beat me to the punch. Direct Quote here:
"every musician alive dreams about playing to some rowdy, READY... rowdy is good, but READY, individuals like ya'll... and what that means is you can sing on every word. If you can't carry a tune in a bucket, it don't matter. And If somebody sittin beside you goes 'man will you stop singing, I came to hear the band', tell them to go buy the fuckin record and sit at home and listen to it in headphones, cause this is a LIVE show, and at a live show, people SING, people HOLLER, people DANCE, people drink a little bit and have a little FUN so thats what its all about, thank ya'll"
Now that 2.24.08 is a great one to listen to!!! (god bless you tapers!)
On the subject being discussed....as with everything in life…. Do what makes you feel good as long as you’re not making someone else feel bad while doing it.
I LOVE the vibe at the Mofro shows....the rowdier the better…and I like the fact JJ mentions often to go for it and sing..it appears he’s not so uptight about his art that he thinks people should just watch him perform…..he wants you to join in and share it. I dig that
I agree Gr8ful98 …It is totally about tangible energy given back and forth from artist to the audience. It makes me smile when I see others enjoying the shit outta music....no matter how goofy their being…
While idiots (drunk or not) screwin’ with your buzz & good time is never a good thing…in any situation....Being around people letting loose and having a good time is usually a damn good time.
As far as the calling out songs or singing topic...doesn’t bother me My 2 cents
I suggest y'all get it from JJ himself, click on the link that scottd posted for that Orlando show, and listen to it. Or...you can look under the "Set Lists" portion of this site & find that show and listen to it directly from this site! During one of the encore breaks, Danny says the he's never seen a crazier MOFRO crowd ever. Orlando Baby! WOOO!
It happens to be George's last show with MOFRO, and the grand finaly of the Winter Run. scottd and myself came up with a great slogan, in the parking lot at Skippers, while downing Crown Royal by the gulp
Winter Run 2008 - "If you remember it, you weren't there!"

It’s 2025 and my expenses to keep this site up are just over $800/yr. If you want to help offset my expenses to keep this site up please consider pitching in a buck or 2. Much obliged!
