I am looking for a set list for Mofro's show on February 2nd @ Variety Playhouse. There is a song they do, usually at the end of a show, that I have to have a copy of. I don't know the name of the song, it could be a cover, but it gets your booty shakin' and has the words "You know, you know what I want".
Please tell me what that song is, if it's a cover, etc.

p.s. Am I the first one other than the web host to post on here?
To answer your second question first, yes you are the proverbial "virgin." I just launched the site in late Jan, but the search engine process can take months. I'm thrilled though that the site is moving up in Google and Yahoo by leaps and bounds. Site traffic, while still a small number, is increasing right now by 50% per day!
On to the bigger question: the song of which you speak is called "Harp and Drums." The show you referred to was not recorded live to my knowledge, but go to this link for a show at Mr. Smalls in Pittsburgh from last September: http://www.archive.org/details/mofro2007-09-26.km184
The encore song is Harp & Drums. I have actual set lists from Mofro shows over the past year that confirm it's the name of the song.
I'm not positive of its origin, but I'm guessing it's original. I'm speculating the name of the song comes from the strong presence at the beginning of the drums and harmonica.
I was perplexed for a long time when I would see the name of the song on the set list, cause I always figured it was called something like "You know" or "What I'm talking about" or etc. But after attending about 20 shows now over the last 15 months, plus the confirmation of the name of the song on set lists from archive.org (as above), I'm sure that Harp and Drums is the name.
If you'd like, I can ask JJ tonight or tomorrow night...if he comes out, as to the origin of the song (original vs cover) and ask him if there's any chance it will be on the new record coming out later this year. Thursday night at the Culture Room in Ft. Laud he didn't come out, nor did he last night at Skipper's. But they may tonight (Skipper's again, or tomorrow night at The Social in Orlando.) I've got 207 photos from Thursday night and 166 from last night to cull through before I can get uploaded to the photo page. It'll take a little while.
Thanks for signing up, and for the question. Stay cool... ---------- MofroFan1
P.S. You are so right about that song, man. I swear I've seen deaf people start dancing to that song. If that song don't make you get up and move yo' ass, someone needs to check you for a fcking pulse!
P.P.S. 2 nights down, 2 to go; my ears are ringing so fcking bad right now...but I don't care!
Thanks Clay - I hope it's something they will record soon. It's about time to have Mofro record a live CD - their sound offers so much more live, and it would be great to record in great detail the energy that they present on stage.
If you want to hear some great Mofro stuff live though, a good place to go is AdamScone.com - in the media section, audio specials. There are some radio interviews and live recordings. On one of the tracks, Mofro does an incredible cover of Van Morrison's "Tupelo Honey". Normally I cuss out anyone who covers a Van Morrison song (why screw with perfection?), but I'll give JJ a pass on this one.
I think I've been to about 25 Mofro shows so far, and it's something I plan around. I grew up in Jacksonville, so it's nice to support the hometeam. JJ told me once that he worked around the corner from where I grew up. I wonder if we ever crossed paths....
I couldn't agree more...I've been dying for them to do a live CD. It doesn't sound like this new one is going to be live, but who knows. Maybe they'll do some of the songs live. You're so right...the energy they have live is just off the chart. The addition of Art and Dennis on horns has been a big plus too.
The guys were awesome as always last week. They did "Harp & Drums" 3 of the 4 nights. They brought down the house all 4 nights, but their show at The Social on Sunday night registered on the fcking richter scale man.
Thanks for the turn-on to the Scone page--I'll check it out for sure. I saw them do Tupelo Honey twice recently--once during their 4 day run at the Freebird during New Year's, and again just a week later at the Bamboo Room in Lake Worth in January of this year. People were in awe.
Know what the bummer is? I saw the set list for Friday night's gig at Skipper's and one of the songs for the encore was Tupelo Honey. But then he didn't do it.
That'd be interesting if you guys had ever bumped into each other up there. He still lives on the same property he's always lived on...same piece of land his granny lives on. Says he'll never change. I sure hope not.
I still got lots of photos to add and lots of work to do on this site. Just need more hours in a day!
Thanks for checking in from time to time. No new posts yet. The site traffic is still growing, but stuck in a little bit of a plateau at the moment. It's only been 6 weeks now since I optimized the site for all the search engines so it's still early. It's climbing, and in fact with some keywords we're way up there near the top of page one, but for the big ones it will still take some work and time.
We'll get more posts going and build a bona fide swamp community here, you know we will!

They can't do a live CD without studio CDs first, but after this one, they'll surely have enough to put together a set list for a live CD/DVD that would kick ass.
Not to criticize the studio stuff, but goddam...live Mofro performances are too great to not share with the world! ---------- MofroFan1

It’s 2025 and my expenses to keep this site up are just over $800/yr. If you want to help offset my expenses to keep this site up please consider pitching in a buck or 2. Much obliged!
