Hey Morena, I saw you asking about where to stay on the other post but thought I'd answer here.

The cheapest thing in Ybor is the Hampton Inn Ybor City (Well, there are a couple places nearby that rent rooms by the hour but I think we should avoid those.) It's a 2 block walk. Rooms are $76/nite. The Hilton Garden Inn is about 6 blocks and it's $119.

There are rooms in the $50-$60 range about 5 miles away...within a 10 minute drive or so. I'd rather walk two blocks. Losing my license for 6 mos wouldn't be fun, much less crashing into someone. (My neighbor was visiting a friend, drove ONE block to the convenience store to get more beer and got a DUI on the way. Now I watch him ride his bike to the bus stop every day to get to work.)

There's LOTS of watering holes within a 4-5 block walk of the Hampton too. We could all hook up at one of 'em ahead of time OR throw down a pre-show party at the pool at the Hamptom. We could bring some food in I imagine, if'n we want. Hell, it's a businessperson's hotel plus kids will already be back in school and it'll be a Thurs night--I think we'd have the pool all to ourselves. Course we gotta keep in mind our daily frog-stranglers.

Just opening it up for comments y'all.

I'm down for the hotel idea. Better than getting a DUi for damn sure. Now the problem with me is getting that weekend off from work...Or at least 2 days off.

Jake, Jesse and I are down. I might be bringing 3 more people that I got into the fro.

Hopefully Cowboy Mouth won't be there. I have a score to settle. Just Kidding.

We met a lot of you at the JJ Grey solo show in Boca.

This gig has been danglin' in front of my nose since the original post. Stumbled out of the Masquerade a few times back in the USF days. Back then, there was a cigar store across from the irish pub that rolled stogies right in the shop. El Sol was the name - a great robusto for $.95. Rafael, the owner, would bring out a secret stash now and then and I would buy him a pint and listen to the "good ole' days."
The "cigar boom" put Raf in a position to sell out, the new smokes were rolled elsewhere, came with a cigar band, and sold for $5.
As JJ says, shit just changes - deal with it.

Wish I could make this trip, but a mid-weeker is just out of reach right now. Working on the Whorlando HOB... we'll see.
BTW, if you are travelling to Tampa, a good cigar can still be purchased at "edwards pipe and tobacco."

El Sol is still there! www.elsolcigars.com. I'm sure it's as different as night and day relative to $.95 days. And yeah, they're $4 or $5 bucks now...but damnit it's worth it. Just glad to see they are still hanging in there, unlike so many other CEE-GAR City shops. God Bless'em.

THAT is a great idea, FireFly! - specially since I don't know any of yous guys!!!! How funny would that be?

Me and MG WILL BE THERE!!!!!!
btw, I'm Karla and he's Michael

no dice on Ella's tho, he still wants to go to the Columbia, but I got about 18 hours to talk him out of it!

I am just so gosh darned excited!

Clay, will you be wearin' that hat you have on in all the pics? How will I know any of you if we don't go to Ellas? I got a few pics posted to Flicker but I'm too dumb to figure out how to make them show up here, Dernnit!

"Hello, my fuckin name is Clay"

You know Firefly is just crazy enuf to bring name tags.

I don't blame him on the Columbia. It's great. No worries. You'll know us. We'll be the crazy ones. You could recognize me from the hat but actually it's hats...I have about a dozen. But you can count on me having a lid on for sure.

If you see an "older" guy with a pretty trophy wife that looks a good 12-15 years younger than him...that's us!

One way to find us will be to listen out for Firefly. She has an accent from the planet she's from. It's not like ours, especially ours from the South. As best as I can describe it, her accent sounds kind of German I guess.

I dunno what time everybody will leave Ella's. We could end up at the Hampton for a drink before going to the Ritz. Personally I'll probly watch about 2 whole minutes of Earl Greyhound (no disrespect to him but I ain't going to see him) so who knows where I'll be.

I'll watch more of Shooter, sort of.

You can find some of our group outside where the smokers are too. And some of the best people watching anywhere is Ybor City, so outside is often quite entertaining.

Firefly, seeing you told me that about the bass player I think I'll have to check em out. I mean, just to listen ya know, not really watch or anything.

She reminded me...if all else fails, when you walk into the main concert hall look off to your left and you'll see the sound board. You'll see 3 or 4 mics up in the air. Near those will be estanley (Eric) and JohnDude and hopefully Frank. Find them you've found us.

And that after-party Turkey Jam...wow, simply wow. That shit will never ever happen again and I'm completely lucky and honored to be able to say I was there. A stage FULL of BMFs making magic happen right in front of my eyes.

I don't care what happens in Orlando or who shows up, last night will not be beat.......

Sorry I ain't jumped on y'all. Got to bed at 3:45. Running round like chickens trying to hit the road to Orlando

But I can't add a whole lot to what was said above.

jeazzzy...welcome to the board!!

The setlist will be up in a day or 2. I have it, but as usual JJ changed it up a bit while they were up there. As soon as we get it right I'll put it up.

For those in the setlist pool...nobody won!! Okay, y'all know I'm kidding. See above. Giggles is in our shower right now (I peeked) and when she's all clean we're hittin the road (okay okay I gotta shower up to as does TW). Gigs is going to tally the ballots and declare a winner from my back seat. We'll let y'all know!!

The article on that same site with the Q&A with JJ is great. JJ goes into great detail about how the early days were for him, how hard he worked to get where he is, and how close he was to just calling it quits when the bad times got real bad. He's a trooper and all the integrity a man can have, he has. He is exactly who we all think he is. It is good to be a Mofro Fan, that's for sure...

And, from the way it sounds, even better to be a Mofro Fan and lucky enough to go to last night's show and after party....

I forgot to add to this that after Giggles got finished running her hands thru JJ's hair, everyone (other than Mofro Homeless Guy) that wanted to had talked to him (JJ, not homeless guy) so I moved up. After asking him about the setlist similarities I asked him about that baby girl. His face lit up like a sparkler (giggles was there; she'll tell you). He said she sleeps thru from 8 pm to 10 am every day. She likes to go the beach with mommy and daddy. I didn't ask him if he's put her on a surfboard yet. Man is he a proud papa!

Sunshine I think JJ was happy to have someone ask about his lil' princess. As soon as the question finished rolling off of Clay's tongue, JJ's entire demeanor changed and softened. He seemed to exude a warm glow and when he spoke about his daughter there was such a sense of joy and wonder that it was heart warming to witness. I was honored to share in such an intimate moment.......especially after I molested his locks:p
