I know what you mean Dweezy; got to get your swamp-funk jones fixed. I dig it.

Best bet is archive.org. You can go straight to this link:
http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=jj%20grey%20%26%20mofro&sort=-date
There are 180 shows on there from as recently as Sunday, and back to 2002.

There's also etree. I'm an etree buffoon. I ain't never been able to download anything from it, but there are shows there and I know it works--it's just me resisting technology.

Others will jump in I'm sure!!

Dweezy,

Clay is dead on. www.archive.org is by far the best place to find live recordings of the guys. You could be downloading for weeks once you go there. I've gone so far as to buy an external hard drive to store all the recordings for myself. What a source, especially for the concerts that you are there personnally. Always a gift to have those recordings to remember and continue grooving to JJ's cuts.

Enjoy

Hey y'all,
Archive is probably the best place to find live stuff.
Our good buddies Stan,Hollis,KLOWE have been dilligent in getting them old tapes up. Danny Owen was instrumental in getting MOFRO ok'd for archive.

A shout out to all y'all 'veteran' MOFRO swampfunkjunkies.
I've got a simple rig: AKG481's>XLR>Dmod UA5>JB3. It all pretty much fits in a lil' backpack that I've carried from NY to NOLA to the Bamboo Room. I'm taking some personal time off traveling for live music, if you are going to see a show I'm willing to let ya take my gear if you record it. Only request is treat it like it was your own. If your anywhere near Orlando stop by & pick it up. Clay...don't you hafta roll through O-town on your way to the 8-26 Acoustic Set?

Thanks Y'all,
John Dude

another great place is:
http://bt.etree.org
if your not familiar with the bit torrents, download the flac frontend program for conversion to mp3 or whatever, and then download vuze(azureus) for file transfer..

i'm sitting here jammin to their set on 7-28-2008 that i downloaded from etree. I needed to get my hands on the new Otis Redding cover their playing,"I've been loving you too long". I watched their set last week from 10,000 lakes festival on ICLIPS and it was smoking and the highlight was the new excellent cover..

Hey JD--I've been meaning to email you, like every day for 2 weeks. My bad. I suck.

To go to Jax, I usually cut though the middle of the state (always have from Tampa, and interestingly Mapquest routes you that way too.) Up 75 to just south of Micanopy and cut over to 301.

That said, it's not really longer to go through O if there's no quagmire on I-4. Being I'd hit Orlando about 10-ish it's probably no big deal. Just let me know and I'd be happy to bring it to someone but damned if I'd know what to do with it. Well...I could stare at it.

K? I'll holla soon; promise; really, I will; I'm not kidding; I'll do it; yeah, I suck.

Its easy stuff to figure out.
You just need one dry run, and then your good.
this plugs in to that, and that screws in to that.
makes sure this button says this and then call dude or me to make sure yer lite up correctly. record.

and if you mess up, oh well, theres always next time.

b/w, dude, liz, stan, klowe and I, we've messed up plenty of recording sessions.

Thanks UH--makes me feel better. All ya'll are the gods and goddesses of taping in my book, so knowing ya'll have f'ed up helps!

Do you think it'll be okay to tape the acoustic set? Should I check ahead of time?? Contact me off board if need be and we can talk further.

BTW, I do like the sound of the whole thing; too bad my wife can't make it...damn thing sounds like you were describing a sex act. "...this plugs in to that, and that screws in to that, make sure this button says this"

Could be, if the logistics work.

If we got 2 tapers for sure, at both events, I may not bring John Dude's equip. First, I don't know his work schedule and I'll be going through Orlando in late morning and he's got to spend some time with me to show me what to do.

And, I'd be so nervous using someone else's equipment that I probably wouldn't want to leave its side during all of BSR. I'd just hate for anything to happen to it while under my care.

Lastly, I have a technical IQ of about 12. Chances of me hooking it all up and getting it to work and everything are not in my favor.

BUT, I do want to make sure we've got bases covered and a back-up. So if it looks like there's only going to be one taper, then I'll check with JD and see what he thinks and all that.

TO BRIGHTER DAYS--didn't forget about your post wedged in there. I've popped off an email to Juniorfoundhishead. He's the one who provided us with the setlist and I asked him if he noticed any tapers. We'll let you know.

As far as BSR, I bet there will be more than us 2 tapers there, I've seen a couple folks over at taperssection talking about going.

Now the in-store, probably a different story, but I will definitely be there with mics in the air!

Speakin to that you folks from tampa or elsewhere better make sure you're here on time, or even better a little early, the one for Country Ghetto started right on time and was only about 5 songs... I hope we get a little more this time!

Yikes! Well, that's why I'm leaving Tampa in the a.m. so I can get up there, get into a room, then get to the beach in plenty of time.

If you think it's covered, then I'll let JohnDude off the hook on getting his stuff.

Okay ya'll I don't know if you caught this above but I just got to comment.

Delerious Tyme, who BTW, trails only UHollis (all hail) in number of postings (with AntsyAshley--who I may start calling Anshley because it's much easier to type--nipping closely at his heels) made the following post above:

"I've gone so far as to buy an external hard drive to store all the recordings for myself."

And he ain't talking about "all" as in the music universe. He's talking "all" meaning everything Mofro has on the archive.

NOW, if THAT ain't a fan ya'll, I dunno what are.

Damn...I wanna know--everybody that has an external hard drive just to store Mofro recordings raise your hand. Get 'em up there high so's we can all see them!

I thought I saw a mic and some equipment being taken down after the show in Burlington. It was on the right side of the room. I assumed someone would put that recording up soon after the show but I haven't heard or seen anything since. I will keep my eyes and ears open.

hey y'all

http://db.etree.org/bs_d.php?year=2008&artist_key=5083

remember that the db for many traders keeps a good list of taped shows that folks have. there are some on here which no one has ,ans others which are not on the archive. many people have a problem with uploading a show to the archive that you didn't tape. so thats one reason why some many are missing from the archive.

when i lost my hard drive, which no one still has been able to recover, it had everything on the archive plus about 15 more shows which are not on the db or the archive.

be careful with those things, redundancy is the key to keeping your shit healthy. they say fiber works well also.

That's great...I need to poke around on there some more. But I can't get a goddam thing to work for me on etree. I have an account, I've downloaded Vuze and a couple other things, and I still can't get it to work. What am I doing wrong?

Clay, we may need to start a separate thread for this, but we need to get you running on Bit Torrent, its the least we could do. You need to download the torrent file from one of the show threads over on etree or wherever. Its the attachment at the top of each show post, there with the details.

Then open THAT FILE with your bit torrent program, in this case Vuze. You'll need to go through the dialogue box that pops up, choose the torrent file, tell it where to save the show on your computer, then it will start downloading! That easy! Where in that process are you getting hung up? IMPORTANT: the show you're downloading needs to have seeders, at least one, but the more the better. The more seeds, the faster your download will be. If there are no seeders, it will not download, since there is no one to download it from, or a "seeder".

Now theres this whole other issue about port forwarding and firewalls, but lets not even worry about that yet. Lets get the basics down first...

Anyone have any video of the boys they can share? I got quite a bit of footage that I was able to use to make about a 20 minute DVD from a show i went to earlier this year. I'm trying to put it up somewhere to share if anyone is interested. I'll post a link later on.

There are a few GREAT mofro dvd's lurking. I used to be great at B&P, latley I'm a super slacker. One of our good buddies on this list is the video master & if y'all are patient I'm sure good video's will be available soon.
FOR FANS BY FANS only, never for sale.

Scott...can't wait to hear the nuggets from yer AKG's
Good thing taping isn't addicting, hehehe.

Oh, and Clay. I was in Austin, TX during ACL fest '05. One of the late night shows @ Antone's was MOFRO opening for DDBB. I was in the sound booth with mics taped to the balcony. JJ, John Popper, Robert Randolph, Papa Mali, memebers of Dirty Dozen Brass Band and I dunno who else was on stage going fucking apeshit...and I fucdup the recording. It's happened to all of us, and like Hollis says: There's always next time & that's how we learn.

Oh, ok, twist my arm... Been keeping these on the DL due to the policy, but I may as well let the cat out of the bag. These need to be shared, especially with the fine folks on this board. As JD stated, FOR TRADE ONLY, NEVER FOR SALE! By the fans, for the fans.

http://www.thetradersden.org/forums/showthread.php?t=61832
http://www.thetradersden.org/forums/showthread.php?t=62167
http://www.thetradersden.org/forums/showthread.php?t=62534

These are tripod-shot, fully chaptered DVD's with menu's, artwork, etc... synched up with the audience sourced audio, basically the BOMB if I don't mind saying so myself :-)

Technically video taping is NOT allowed at Mofro shows, but these were shot with permission from JJ. Hopefully the band will loosen their stance on this at some point with live music video/DVD's becoming increasingly popular. Its just one more way to get the music out there, and like audio taping, can only help promote the band and spread the word! At any rate there is a TON of Mofro on youtube, with the band linking directly to a lot of it either from their website or myspace, so hopefully this shouldn't ruffle any feathers...

HUGE THANKS, as always to JJ Grey & Mofro for allowing taping and trading of their performances.

ENJOY! I'm up for B&P's for any of you Bit Torrent challenged folks. Send me an email. skot_dee@hotmail.com

Thanks for posting & shooting this skotdee-

I’ve download lots of audio torrents before no problem but I have failed with the videos every time…never seems to work out for me for some reason….
I would love to have this…so I’m gonna give it another try

Many, many thanks to all tapers…there’s nothing like a live show!

Where in the processs are you failing Kimberly? Are you able to download the files but not burn them? One BIG difference in the two is the file size. Obviously videos in DVD format are going to be MUCH bigger. I encode these at the highest video bit rates for maximum quality, so they come in around 7 gigs, compared to an average of about 1 gig for audio.

So one, you need a lot of hard drive space to store them, and two, you need software to burn DVD files and obviously need a DVD writable drive to burn them with.

My failure always seem to be the downloading…I lose the (peers/seeders?) or it just never progresses. (Maybe its been the ones I have chosen-and I’ve got in too late)
I was also hitting links though a certain messageboard that I believe might have been the issue- it monitored your up and download ratio-I thought maybe it was because I had no upload ratio…I don’t know

I use Bitcomet- tried Azureus (hated that software.) Went back to Bitcomet for all my audio…gave up on the video.
I do have enough hard drive space though- and I have the DVD burning software..so I’m good there.

Right now I’m trying for your 12.30.07 show..it look like its progressing well- it shows that there are 6 seeders at 100%...so I’m gonna walk away from it for a while and see how it does.

I thank you for your help-hopefully I’ll come back and be able to tell you how stoked I am !

A big thank you to all the tapers that have put their tapes on the net.

I have bought shows from other bands from the site nugs.net. I missed rothbury, which is only a couple hours away from me. I was hoping that they would have this mofro show on nugs, but they didn't. Other bands that played rothbury had their sets on nugs.

When will jj start recording the shows and release them for us to enjoy?

I have no problem paying for live recordings of mofro...

Just dying for more live mofro...

Congrats Kimberly! Actually 28 hrs is really good time for a torrent this large! Thats 7.4 gigs in just over a day. Without good seeders that can take over a week, or longer!

You'll need a compression program such as DVD shrink to squeeze that on a 4.7gb (single layer) DVD. Its actually encoded to fit on an 8.5 (dual layer) dvd. You'll lose a little video quality by doing that, but it shouldn't be too noticeable. Some burning software will do the compression itself, I know Toast will but thats on a mac, not sure what kind of computer you're using.

Good to see you got it though, Im glad yer enjoying it!

Sounds good, BUT, you need to make sure your DVD burner supports Dual-Layer burning...not all do. Just keeps getting more complicated doesn't it?
